A fic rec and deep contemplation of the movie business :-p
OMG, someone wrote a J2 version of Pillow Talk
This is one of my BIG childhood movies. And I just pictured Jared and Jensen in the Hudson/Day parts and giggled like mad. And of course it has "the apartment". *g*
I also feel very, very old. :-p But the matter of fact is, those old screwball comedies, even after 20 years, are still funny to me and much moreso than many modern comedy movies can ever hope to be.
Is it the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia or did they really make better movies back then?

half of the movies hitting the cinemas bar a few such as POTC & a few comedies i've seen, everything is just repeats of old films, its like no one has anything new to add? xx

That`s certainly true. I also feel the term "star" has lost its true meaning. Now everyone who got his five minutes of fame is already called a "star."
I think what I miss about these old movies is a certain charm they had. It might look naive and simplistic nowadays but it was also enchanting. There are modern movies I love but very few of them manage to recapture that magic. Grantedly I have turned a lot more cynical too. :)

I love all those old screwball comedies, too. Heck, I loved the "Let's put on a show!" movies with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. *g*
I do think movies were better back then. Not everything was better about them, but I loved movies that had a real story and some substance--even the silly movies. Now movies are all about the Big Moment or the Big Joke and people don't even seem to notice that things don't make sense half the time.

I mean, I even liked the Star Wars Prequels but nowhere did they recapture the charm of the old movies. Didn`t bother me back then that you only saw three aliens and a blurry planet but the characters could be cute and witty with each other and the story didn`t try to be more than a fairytale good vs. evil.
Now my eyes can feast on the crystal clear planet with millions of little things going on in the background. Doesn`t exactly help me stomach the dialogue.

That's exactly what I meant. *g* It can get in the way of a good movie.

Me too. They were very simple in their humour but I think that worked - and ages - well. A modern comedy has all these elaborate set-ups for jokes and it can seem so artificial, it takes out half the fun.
