Watched Sanctuary, the new Sci-Fi show with Amanda Tapping.
Okay, that main guy, Will, in certain angles he looks so much like Daniel Jackson that I don't think it's such a good idea to make him a carbon copy of Daniel Jackson. It probably wouldn't be so bad if this were any other show but the six degrees of separation with Tapping and all the other familiar faces from SGA in it are treading on thin ice as it is.
Also, he got at certain odd points integrated way too quickly. When he rushed in and found Henry on the floor, yelling "Henry"? I asked myself "huh, have they even met at this point?" A few eps down the line if and when the characters have developed a rapport, that's fine but "OMG, are you okay, strange guy on the floor?" would have been more believable to me.
Jack the Ripper - love the idea and the character had at least a distinct personality - which I can't say for everyone in this Pilot - but the concentration camp prisoner look made sense when Halling actually was a prisoner in Michael's concentration camp. What gives, the actor has an allergy to food?
The dialogue at times was mind-blowingly bad, I'm sorry to say.
And whoever in the wardrobe department found that atrocious hat they had Amanda Tapping wearing a lot? This must be the same person who died Anna Paquin's hair blonde on HBO. Whoever you are, you are going to hell. Fashion hell.
Now, this all might read as if I hated it. Which I didn't. It was uneven and it looks a bit tacky but with some good scripts - and better dialogue - as well as giving the characters a bit more "oomph" it could be an entertaining show. Not a great one by any means but entertaining.
The one thing I loved without reservation was the music. It nicely conveyed "otherness" and created a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. Kudos to Goldsmith.
