109? One hundred and freaking nine stories? I have fallen so hopelessly behind on my
spn_j2_bigbang reading, I counted the fics to see how much are still waiting for me. Biiiiig mistake. So far I read maybe a fifth. :/ I guess baby steps it is then. If any of you lovely writers gets a glowing comment to your bigbang around the time of Christmas, it will be me who only now got around to reading it. *g*
Interestingly enough, the majority is J2, with Wincest and Gen pretty evenly split in second place. Is it just me or has there been less Wincest overall in fic? I seem to remember that in the early days of fandom, there seemed to be so, so much of it.
Of course I feel in the latter half of Season 2 the show itself wobbled somewhat and in Season 3 went off the rails - and the level of criticism has been quite high there - while J2 got cuddlier and more squee-worthy so the inspiration shifted from show-related writing to RPS. At least that was my impression. And my personal experience.
Now the wheel might turn again in Season 4 because there appears to be some general excitement for the new Season, the likes of which there hasn`t been since the Season 1 Finale. God, I missed that feeling myself. Yeehaw. Will see if it lives up to the hype and if/how it might manifest in fic.
I`ve got to finish two other projects first but there is a certain itch in my fingers to write Sam and Dean - Wincest and/or Gen - in ways I haven`t felt in a long, long, long time. *cuddles rediscovered love*

And I don't read a lot of wincest, not that I have anything against it. It's just easier to read RPS because there's no real canon to muck things up.
How my bigbang ended up being wincest is anyone's guess. I blame it on the music. *nods*

Date: 2008-08-03 10:39 am (UTC)I have it sitting safely on my hd, and since I`m now going about reading in reverse order, it`s top of the list. :)

I read a couple from flisters or authors I know but at first I was trying to get my own finished in time and then I was trying to get my summergen finished in time, so reading fic kind of fell by the wayside. *sigh*

I used to read a lot of Wincest when I started in fandom - and I still had a certain barrier to RPS back then. But last Season, it was, well, I didn`t even feel enthused about watching most of the time, the characterization, the changes, all not agreeing with me.
And I was afraid fic would either reflect the Season 3 vibe as well - no thanks - or painfully remind me of the good old days and I wanted neither. I hardly read another about Dean and Sam all last year.

Heh. I noticed you even had a soundtrack for it. *envies* I wouldn`t know the first thing about compiling one for a story. Also, my musical tastes are a bit, odd, maybe. *g*
