Sigh, one of the new kittens - Tony (short for Mark Anthony) - is sick already. Since yesterday he won't feed, barely drink, pukes all the time and is generally pretty listless. Took him to the vet today who gave him broadband antibiotics, something to settle his tummy and two more shots of electrolytes because the poor little guy was so dehydrated.

He is sleeping in his basket now. I just hope he will drink a bit of water on his own later.

I have a follow-up scheduled with the vet tomorrow. The big problem is of course that we don't know the cause. Could have been something he ate, an infection or any number of things. Not sure about infection, though, because, fortunately, his brother kitten is fine, alternating between bouncing aroun and cuddling with his sick companion.

Damn, it's just been one week. Hopefully, he'll recover. He is such a sweet little guy and the cuddliest kitten I've ever met. He will regularly crawl very, very close (the crook of my neck, my hand, my lap) and rub his soft fur on my skin, demanding to be petted. Don't wanna lose him so soon. :(

Since I pretty much had to accept that by now there is little hope of my beloved Rolli returning, my Mom and I went to the animal shelter to take a look. It was planned that we take one cat at the most but since the little critter would have to spend the day mostly alone due to us working, it would have seemed cruel to subjugate a really small kitten to that.

So, as of today, we have two new additions to our home: a pair of twelve-week old rambunctious brothers, one gray and checkered, one black. Currently, they are roughhousing and/or exploring the house. I'm sure they'll greatly enjoy our big yard once they'll be allowed outside since ultimately, they will be outdoor cats but are gonna stay inside for a week or two to get settled. Will have to observe them a bit more to choose appropriate names.

I will also say, my respect to the people volunteering at the shelter. So many animals looking at you with big, hopeful eyes, begging for some attention. I'm not a dog person but even their sad eyes got to me. Since we recently had a very, very bad dog incident in our general area, I'm guessing their chances of getting adopted have slimmed considerably. Sigh.
