And the Oscar goes to...
Christmas break is almost upon us and most of the fall shows aired half their Seasons by now (seriously, I think they crammed in more this year than last at this point) so I figured a final 2013 awards list was in order:
Best returning show: Arrow - firing on all cylinders right now, seriously, THIS is the comic book show of my geek dreams at the moment
runner up: Person of Interest - some fantastic arcs
Worst returning show: Vampire Diaries - last Season had problems, this one is a DISASTER, maybe it`s the showrunner being spread too thin but I sure hope they fix the hell out of it in the spring, so far they managed non-sucky writing for only one!!! character
runner up: none actually
Slashiest returning show: Haven - let me bathe in the Duke/Nathan of this year and forget everything else
runner up: none
Best new show: The Originals - after the backdoor Pilot, I was SO sure this would suck and get killed in the ratings but I`m surprised by how good it is,
runner up: Sleepy Hollow - the cast is great and I like the stories, at the beginning of the Season, this one would have easily made number one but I feel it bottomed out whereas Originals is climbing in quality
Worst new show: Atlantis - probably noone is even watching it and only my OCD will get me to finish this Season but why isn`t it at least trashy fun and cutely slashy?
runner up: neither Agents of Shield (it improved somewhat) nor The Tomorrow People (it has pretty, pretty John who would be such an interesting main character) but they are still both on the naughty list
Best slashy new show: Almost Human - penis envy, nough said :)
runner up: Dracula - Dracula and Renfield FTW
Guilty pleasure: Reign - I can`t help it, it`s cracky fun with gorgeous costume, the milquetoast prince if prettier than all the girls and who would have thought that Anne of Green Gables can rock a villain?
runner up: Witches of East End, I guess - it`s silly and soapy but the supernatural elements can be entertaining

I was also very looking forward to meeting Barry and nervous about how he would be written and they seriously nailed it. I was so relieved. I love the Flash. A LOT.
And now? I am actually really looking forward to see what they'll do with Dick. For one, I'm just delighted that they seized the chance and have him appear (given that they went to Blüdhaven last season and I was SO miffed he didn't get a cameo), rather than just ignoring his existance like most other adaptations did, including the Nolan trilogy (which is everything but NOT a Batman trilogy, seriously). I obviously have feelings about this :-)

Yup, Barry`s introduction was great and the actor is quite likeable.
Particularly the last two-parter was so well executed and intense and character-driven; I was really impressed. (The Tommy moment? I didn't even know where to put all my feelings. I may have had a tear in my eye. Oh, shush.)
I miss Tommy so it was nice seeing him here. And I knew Slade Wilson would end up being a nemesis but I loved their island friendship so much. *wibble* On the other hand I have a serious kink for an enemy who used to be close to the hero. *double-wibble*
And now? I am actually really looking forward to see what they'll do with Dick
Right now Arrow has really earned my trust so I`m looking forward to each and every piece of comic canon they will add. Okay, I only know some rough outlines mostly but still.

Also, I was totally soaked up in the big Coulson story arc of AoS... so many Pheeels! Can't help it, I'm a total nerdy fan now... ♥ ♥ ♥

Hee. I`m pretty happy with how fast John and Dorian "bonded". :D Otherwise, I didn`t want to pick up another crime show which this pretty much is. But Dorian as a character and the chemistry between the two of them is worthwhile for me.
Also, I was totally soaked up in the big Coulson story arc of AoS.
The Coulson arc was the one mystery I got intrigued by. And the show has definitely been getting better but I still have a hard time emotionally connecting to the characters, minus Coulson. And that`s more because his death in Avengers totally got me choked up.

Same here regarding AoS. Coulson's death on Avengers... ;_;
BUT:
And even though I also like Skye and May, their relationship is written so weird...well, hopefully some things get straightened out in the next ep.
BTW, in case you haven't seen it yet, Page Branson created (and still creates) some fantastic AoS artwork/comics: Page Branson's Tumblr. This is one of my my favourites: Don't touch Lola.

If you enjoy such lofty concepts as
- something is supernaturally wrong with Sam (lets tack the angel storyline on him, too, because there were so few "other Sam" moments in the show,
- Dean pointlessly angsts about it and does nothing else,
- an oldie but a goodie: "one brother is lying to the other",
- in the same vein "codependency rocks. or sucks. or maybe it rocks."
- Cas gets brought in and dropped from the story at random (and if him and Dean actually have a friendly relationship is anyone`s guess but let us make it clear that they are both really, really, really heterosexual manly man who have sex with womenfolk),
- we will kill off side characters for shits and giggles,
you will find much to love this year. Me, not so much.

Totally agree on Haven and Atlantis.
And now i'll cry in the corner because why? Why didn't they make John of TTP the lead character? The show would improve so much!

I know. And now I guess they`ll focus on Cara as leader? Urgh, at least Stephen is only stupid. I actively dislike Cara.

But she? I don't think I knew any other female character i'd hate so much. She's just awful. And if she'll be a leader I feel sorry for TP.
In general I just want Stephen and cara to be together and stop torturing poor john and for john to find a decent girl and forget about that bitch.
