Did anybody watch the premiere episode of Sleepy Hollow?
I adore the movie and went through phases of "YAY" when the show was first announced to "NOOOOO" when they ix-nayed the period setting and would instead put it in modern times. Then back to "Cool" when I saw the first trailer.
My first verdict would be: the trailer didn`t lie. It looks fun, genuinely scary at times and I do like the twist they took to turn it into a larger story. Not their fault that I`m probably going to be soured on what used to be some of my most favourite genre stories for the next fifty years due to some asinine other take on it.
The leads are unknowns - at least to me - and I really like them both. The guy playing Ichabod is a major charmer and certainly easy on the eyes. Abby, the female lead, is sympathetic and competent without being oversold. Thank you, unknown writers. (No idea who created this show and too lazy to look).
For now, a definite keeper.
Also tried out Under the Dome (edited because the show bored me so much, I couldn`t even remember its proper name :) which just wasn`t my cup of tea. The premise sounded cool but somehow I envisioned something like those Fringe episodes where they went to a "cursed" town, only longterm. Instead it quickly turned into another variation of "asshole characters doing asshole things (which I could live with) AND being boring doing so (which I can`t)." A most definite "nay".

Date: 2013-09-18 07:51 pm (UTC)I'll probably give Sleepy Hollow a chance.

Date: 2013-09-18 08:27 pm (UTC)The guy playing Ichabod is fantastic, he gives off that completely baffled vibe without it making him seem stupid or simple. His funny as hell when he's not liking something too, he's got this uppity quality he reverts to when he's offended that I love.
I think Abby's story is going to be really interesting the more you delve into it.
I made it through three episodes of Under the Dome, and had to drop it. I didn't like the premise, or the acting. It gave me a headache.

I thought the premise sounded cool but then it immediately desolved into trope writing 101. Not my thing.

I'm really looking forward to BlackList and Almost Human I think those are going to be my other good picks. There's others that I want to check out but I don't have high hopes.
There are tons of mid-season shows that look cool though.

Date: 2013-09-19 06:48 pm (UTC)I wanna check out those new CW shows, the 100? and I forgot the name of the other one, the mutant thingie.
Not that I actually need more shows to watch. It`s crazy as it is.

Date: 2013-09-19 04:16 am (UTC)The BF loves it though and he tries to get me give it another chance.... But I do not want!
Absolutely loved Sleepy Hollow though. It's from Orci/Kurtzman, who wrote Fringe, Alias, the Star Trek Reboot, Now you see me...
So it's not that surprising. Agree on the guy who play Crane. I am not sure I ever saw him in anything, but he was fantastic. That character could be a total disaster, but he made him work.
Also loved the female main character, and all the supporting. I'm just sad they killed off so many actors I really like.
....
Oh, and I checked, Tom Mison was Bingley in "Lost in Austen"! Now that I know I remember. But he was a blonde in that one, at least I think so.

Ah, okay, that explains it.
I totally agree about Tom Mison, he did a spectacular job. Didn`t seem familiar to me so I might have seen him in Lost in Austen but didn`t remember.

Yeah, it was like "hi Clancy, bye Clancy" "hi Sulu, bye Sulu". *g*
Also concur about Abby. I had the most doubts about her but she worked well here.
I definitely need a new Supernatural, demon-hunting mystery show. After last year and all the spoilers from Comic Con this year, I don`t think I can even stand to watch youtube scenes from SPN without going criminally insane.
So Sleepy Hollow, here I come.

Date: 2013-09-19 06:50 am (UTC)The thing with the head looks stupid and if they'll continue with that in every ep it'll be boring too soon.
Didn't like the girl there, too cliché I suppose, Guy is ok but he didn't make me feel *oh, i'll watch anything with him* so i'm on the fence about this show.
As for Under the Dome i'm happy to finish its first season and all I can tell - never again! The first ep was pretty ok but after that the show became an epitome of cliché writing and I couldn't stand ALL of its characters. Not surprised it has good ratings though cause these days cool show are unnoticed and bad ones are watched by many *sigh*

Date: 2013-09-19 05:11 pm (UTC)I know, it`s just so paint-by-the-numbers.
As for Sleepy Hollow, I didn`t really feel fannish about it but I think the show has the potential to be really good.

Date: 2013-09-19 06:46 pm (UTC)Hopefully, they can keep up this momentum. I`m in desperate need of a good demon-hunting show.
