I thought Finch's decision to keep Reese out of this particular case was curious. So far Reese' biggest trigger seems to be someone hurting kids and while I had no doubt he wouldn't like men beating their wifes, it hasn't been established as something he will immediately go bonkers over. I mean, from the flashback in the last episode with the phonecall by Jessica, how her voice shook, how she sounded so beaten down by life, I immediately went to "battered wife" and that she'd be dead by the time Reese finally came to get her.
But still, we had the case in the appartment house with the stalked woman which is close enough, we had the case with the serial rapist and while Reese had no love for either of the perps, he wasn't emotionally compromised enough to screw up the case. Nor did Finch even entertain this notion for a second.
Also, Finch has alluded to knowing all about Reese' past before and has never shied away from mentioning it. It's his own past that he is very, very protective of. And I may add he respects John's privacy as much as John repects his as the last scene proved.
I guess I could have understood the whole thing better if the case had involved someone actually connected to Jessica.
That said, the exposition scene Finch explaining his initial confusion about numbers repeatedly popping up, the way his voice went very small there? Great acting IMO by ME.
Also, I found the scene with the birthday present adorable. Finch almost adorably hopped in place when he handed it over and he smiled. Reese even cracked a genuine smile in return.
Another contender for a "aww, how cute" scene? When Finch is caught by the marshal/perp. Then his eyes go wide and you know John has arrived to rescue him. Which he swiftly does, dragging Finch away like an unruly girlfriend who needlessly put herself in anger. *cough* *g*
Of course, Badass!John is never amiss. I question the wiseness on marching into the marshal's building and simply beating this guy up but it looked great so what the heck.
So, the Mexican prison is Reese' "drop-off-point"? Hahahaha. I don't think Peter is there, though. It was too personal, I think Reese killed him. And heck, Peter attacked him with a fire poker first. Not that he would have stood any chance but good riddance. I liked "you don't have anything I want, not anymore". Great acting by JC. (And sorry, it freaks me out that his intials could also stand for "Jesus Christ" :)
But Peter, the guy is sitting in the dark, watching a videa featuring your dead wife and Peter immediately goes to "loan shark wants my money"? Oh boy. Not the smartest tool in the shed, huh?
From the moment Reese bumped into wheelchair guy in the beginning, I knew it was flashback!Harold. So I found the end a bit on the nose but okay.
Carter's side-plot was kind of pointless. With Jessica's deluded mother who wasn't maybe quite so deluded. Probably pushed her daughter to Peter, the good "provider", read: guy with money. But it's uncanny that with minimal police work, Reese identity and past connections can be discovered yet the FBI runs around like a headless chicken? Uh-uh.
Also, hee, on the casting of the female vic. She played Mercedes opposite JC in Count of Monte Christo so it was a little reunion.
Now, if they could just have Reese at one point utter the line "come with me if you want to live", it would be the cherry on top. *g*
