astri13Oh, Ben Hur is on - must be Easter. *g* Along with Logan's Run that was a movie which as a child kinda left me scratching my head on why the bad guy turned just SO badly and so vengefully on their former bestest friend forever. I mean, it was uncanny. And it wasn't like they played it as said best friend only pretending but as genuinely caring (up to being mega-obsessed with) their friend.
When Messala lies on his deathbed, he basically refuses surgery to save his life to instead wait around for Judah to show up and be able to face him as he is/was. Jeeze. In today's time, fandom would be all over a movie like that.
I never knew that apparently Stephen Boyd had been explicitely directed to act as a spurned lover as his background motivation. And of course noone told Heston about it. Haha, I would have laughed myself silly during shooting if that is true.
