Is anybody still watching SG:U? Because

is anybody on that ship an utter moron?

Last episode ends with a depowered ship on collision course with a star. Me and everybody in the known universe: okay, that ship has ancient technology, it is totally gonna recharge itself with solar power.

The character proceed to freak out, have a survival lottery, wait for their death and then when the ship is already in the star, recharging itself and the lights come on, THEN they figure out that hey, super-developed, self-problem.solving technology seeing a problem with power + finding solar power in reach = fucking problem solving.

If this was an episode of SG:A or SG:1 either the scientists would have brought it up as a possible solution or a non-scientist character would have said "hey, how about them solar power?" To which a scientist would have scoffed, then got a "hm" look and then dashed off to make calculations.

I guess I liked episode 2 best, relatively speaking here, so far because it was the single one time the characters actually contributed something. Scott by finding the compound they needed, Greer by getting him and it back on time and Eli by holding the gate open with his arm for them. Well, maybe the Senator by sacrificing himself.

But everything else? The ship did it. It saves the day time and time again and they do nothing but wait for their death and then celebrate their survival. Courtesy of ALL the work being done by the ship. I know, it is supposed to be darker and more BSG-like but the BSG folks were never so passive in their own story.

And the characters?

Rush must be getting his caffeine back because he was almost pleasant until that stupid dun-dun-dun at the end. Which made no sense. There would have been no reason for him to keep it to himself if he knew they were gonna make it. It wasn't in any way against his (best) interests to keep mum. Even Baltar wouldn't have because NO reason.

The IOC representative? Way to have a spine there, lady. "Let all those unimportant fuckers die, choose the young, childbearing and able" "Wouldn't that kind of exclude YOU?" "Waaaaaah, please don't let ME die."

Back when Woolsey took command of Atlantis, I was quite sceptical but they managed to not make a joke out of a buerocrat as a leader aka snivelling coward with a big mouth who needs to run to the heroic military when the going gets tough. Nice to see we are back on track on SGU. *sacrasm*

Chloe and Scott sex? When did they forge that deep connection? At the end of episode 2? Because last episode Chloe was all over hero du jour Eli. And now back to Scott. And as soon as Scott was gone, back to Eli. However, at least she had a lot more spine then IOC lady. At first I thought she was trying to barter a passage on the shuttle via Scott but she accepted that she would most likely not be chosen. I give her points for guts there.

Scott thinking she would? Come on, the Pilot and the Medic were a dead ringer for that mission. *headdesk*

Hilarious how they let mutineer one just lie there on the floor while everybody went after their business. Hee.

But, all in all, it has been five episodes in and my feelings are best described as "horrified fascination".
