This is totally OCD but in the interest of a time-breakdown for the new episodes, things have clocked out thusly:
Rough length of an ep 38 to 40 minutes tops which is the same as it has always been. And curiously enough with the "broadening of the universe" I thought it would increase. To at least push us over the "ep ends early enough that people changing the channel will be counted into other shows half-hour ratings, not ours." Idjits.
- 3.01 - Brotherly Scenes (as in together, even if with another player) at around 22 minutes, 7 without either on-screen
- 3.02 - Brotherly Scenes at 6 minutes, 12 without either Dean or Sam on-screen (with the whole mother-daughter subplot taking about 11 of them)
- 3.03 - Brotherly Scenes at 21 minutes, 9 without either on-screen
Surprisingly the Premiere had the best quota - even though I`m reasonably sure that compared to last year and the year before the side character action as well as the split-up increased by around 20 % - but that tells me it`s about quality over quantity. It doesn`t help me when they are on-screen together but I do not feel them or like them.
The second one is just measly on the Sam`nDean front, sorry. That`s WAY too much apart for me. And while I found that particular subplot in 3.02 well-acted, even with recurring characters I don`t even start to remotely care about their stories before, oh say, one Season, rather two. A standalone storyline for PiPs that takes nearly a third of the ep is pushing it. Over the top.
The third one is clearly the best in terms of quality and quantity even though there was quite a bit split-action between Sam and the hunters vs. Dean and Bela. But at least I didn`t want to bitchslap either guy in those scenes. :)
