Oy, that is depressing, ratings hit an all-time low. Really bad. In sweeps of all times. Damn. No cause to panic yet but it honestly caught me by surprise. :(
According to the half hour breakdowns of SV and SPN about 2 Million people tuned out at 9 p.m. (or rather about 30 Nielsen viewers did) which I`m guessing had something to do with fucking CSI and fucking Grey`s both gaining about 2 Mio viewers each. Both had HUGELY hyped eps. Gah. I hate them both with the passion of a thousand suns.
I don't like either of those shows either. Grey's Anatomy started out by messing with the first season of Boston Legal and stealing its timeslot. Why didn't they just leave it there? :-(
I tried watching one of the CSIs and I've watched a few random episodes to catch a favorite actor guest-starring, but I actually find it both icky-gross and boring. GA is just completely annoying. I adore JDM, and I didn't even like his character on that show.
I actually liked CSI in the first 2 or 3 Seasons but then it had a million spin-offs and it got so repetitive. I mean how many times can you spin basically the same case?
And Grey`s is a hospital soap like any other hospital soaps where a bunch of whiny ass losers angsts about their relationships. Spare me. House would kick each and every one of their annoying little asses.
I never liked CSI because I don't like the procedural shows and it's just too icky for me. I watched CSI: Miami when it first started because I liked Kim Delaney, but I couldn't watch it even for her.
And I agree about Grey's. I can't figure out what's so appealing about that show. I'm not questioning the judgment of people who like it, but I really don't see the appeal. The characters aren't just whiny, they're unlikable, selfish, manipulative people, for the most part--and I would *not* want any doctor of mine to behave the way that they do. So yeah... I guess "whiny ass losers" about covers it. hehe
I haven't watched House, but I think I'd probably like it better than Grey's.

I love "House" because in every other hospital show he would be the guy you hate but here he is the hero. He is brilliant but he has not tact whatsoever and a mean sense of humor. He has no tolerance for stupid people and lets them know it. :)
When his new mean boss wants to pressure him into firing one of his team (a female doctor - Cameron, an African-American one - Foreman and an Aussie Pretty Boy- Chase). House`s solution?: "I`ll grope Cameron and I`ll call Foreman a "racial slur" and Chase...hm..heck I`ll grope Chase too." So they could all sue and not be fired. I loved it.
I wouldn`t want him as my doctor necessarily but he always solves the case.
Sadly, soaps are always a huge draw for people. I guess it never gets old watching the tired "OMG, will they get together or not" sob-story. Blech. Oh yeah, doctor`s have nothing more to do than angst over doing each other in the hospital in between 5 minutes of sacharine hand-wringing over the cute and quirky patient of the week. *rolls eyes*
I called every singe plotline on that show after watching the Pilot. And the characters are a big bunch of whiny losers.
Good news, if you can call it that, is that ratings have been horrible across the board for CW shows lately. So at least SPN doesn`t stick out. But it was the first time we dipped below 3 Million. *sigh*
But the CW network really, really needs to get its act togehehr. Next year their dinosaurs will have to go and they need signature shows. SPN could be a reasonable young cult hit if they bothered to move it out of the death spot on Thursdays. No show will flourish there.
What other show could they put against CSI and Grey's and whatever else and still get the numbers that SPN is getting? But still... I agree. The guys and everyone related to the show work so hard, and people who might have watched it are already dividing their viewing between 2 or 3 other shows. This is a show that deserves to be nurtured if ever a show deserved it.
What kind of ratings was SPN getting in season 1, though? Were they much better than this season? Or less?
What are the ratings for the "dinosaur" shows like Smallville and Gilmore Girls?

On Tuesdays after GG it pulled in 4,5 - 5 Million, after the move to Thursday`s it went down to the lower 4 Million and then upper 3 Million. Since Grey`s moved to Thursday`s we`re in the lower 3 Million and last week we got 2,83 Million.
GG gets 4,5 Million which is down from last year but it`s an aging show, SV is the highest rated on CW, it gets 4,5 - 5 Million weekly. But you have to take into account that these are on at 8 p.m. Those shows usually do better than the 9 p.m. ones. And SV has little real competition with a crossover audience.
So I think it`s safe to say we could attract more viewers, at least go back up to 5 Million but not against CSI and Grey. :(
Thanks. So it was actually getting higher ratings last season after Gilmore Girls. It's a tough position for TPTB of the show to be in, because didn't Kripke lobby to have the show moved to be after Smallville? I'm sure he doesn't have a lot of pull now to say, "Move it again. I was wrong," if it's getting even lower ratings.
Of course, nobody could have known that the show would be up against both CSI and Grey's Anatomy and isn't it also against Scrubs? Heck, even I like Scrubs, though I don't watch it. For anyone who doesn't like the icky dead body show or the soapy hospital show, there's the funny hospital show. *g*

It needs an anchor show like Smallville, though, I think--at least for one more season, which is too bad...
I was reading about Seinfeld, though, and that show didn't become popular until it's fifth season according to things I've read. It started becoming more of a cult show in the 4th season, but the fifth season was the break-out year. There are other shows that were similar. It's too bad that shows aren't given that kind of time any more. I really hope they'll give SPN at least one more season to see what happens.
