Okay Raelle Tucker, that is two strikes - next one you`re OUT. This one will not be pretty as I`m feeling mightily cranky, people. I`m warning you, I felt like ranting:
This one was just like Hunted , a nice story buried somewhere and awesome written and acted guest characters while Sam and Dean annoyed me. Please go back to the concept of Children shouldn`t play with dead things where at least Dean was well written. Then you can move your way onto bi-bro and once you managed this, THEN you can work on the guests.
Tricia Helfer gave a rocking performance and Molly was about the only sympathetic character around. Which is hilarious when you consider that Sam was Captain Empathy on crack. Sadly it went over the line into cloyingly sweet. If I wanted to watch Ghost Whisperer I would. But I hate that crap for that very reason. Couple that with Jared doing the over-emo and it was TOO MUCH.
Also towards both guys, I GET it was disjointed because it was Molly`s perspective but that was NO reason we still get the characters from Tall Tales. They didn`t need to be so terribly over the top.
I get it, Sam is the sweetest and most sensitive guy in the whole solar system. Will you now kindly take that anvil from me, it`s heavy. Thanks.
He has also apparently rediscovered hope after previously being all doom and gloom. So what was it? The lost faith? The being possessed and killing a guy? The trickster annoyance? The general situation with the FBI? I`m curious what kick-started that positive attitude.
Oh and of course he is exposition guy extra-ordinaire. Like they even comment on it with "you`re a walking encyclopedia of weirdness". You know, a little advice here, the sky won`t fall if you mix it up a little and have Dean actually know some stuff. Oh, he didn`t went to College, you say? I see, I guess that explains why he is pretty dim. Pretty but dumb, check, I get it. *headdesk*
And since we`re on the topic of Dean, he got upgraded. In "Hunted" was pretty pathetic all around, here he was simply useless and neglectable. Woohoo, progress.
What the fuck did he contribute to the hunt? Oh yeah, he shot Farmer Roadkill, found the corpse of his wife and was skittish to touch it - WTF, guy, who put his hand into slime holes before? - and got beat up a bit again and needed to be rescued. Just like in "Simon Said", "Usual Suspects", "Hunted", "Nightshifter", BUABS and "Tall Tales". Wow, for a supposedly highly trained hunter he really does kind of suck at the job. Like CONSISTENTLY.
Ironically the best episode of Hunter!Dean this Season? "Children..." written by...Raelle Tucker. Is this woman trying to give me whiplash? I really don`t need to see Superman always prevailing but how great a fighter can you be if you lose every.single.freaking.fight and get taken down by every ghost, demon, werewolf and regular Joe you encounter.
Not that Sam was much better in this one, letting Molly wander off and get taken twice. He did the salt and burn at least but on a competency level if I had a ghost problem I`d call BOBBY and not those two losers. I`d call them later to celebrate though. :-p
Also what the fuck was up with the attitude? He doesn`t like ghosts, I get it, but he went out of his way to be an ass to her. Did she kick his dog 15 years ago or what? He acted like he had a personal grudge or annoyance to be there. If he had been cold and stand-offish, fine but they really needed to hammer the good cop/bad cop theme home, I guess.
He bantered with her there for a second so it`s not like he is physically incapable of dialing it down.
The twist? Yeah, I figured it was an "unknowing" ghost back from the episode description and the director`s cuts so I knew beforehand. Wouldn`t have mattered to me if the story had been executed well, with: not really.
And the white light at the end? Say it with me: OVERKILL.
I told you, it wasn`t gonna be pretty. Not the worst ep ever but botched characterization is something I can`t forgive.
Should I end on a positive note? Okay, I love "House of the rising sun", it`s one of my favorite songs and I worked hard to perfect it on the guitar. So there, that was a bit I liked. :D
As for the trailer for next week, well done ad people, like give away EVERYTHING, haha. Also Dean is in peril AGAIN. Highly trained my ass. Over and out.
