We`re dashing through the show(s)...

Lets see how my shows fared during their first half (or at least close to it) of the new Season (occassional spoiler tags, just in case):
Bones - still watch for the revolving interns basically and I will compliment them on doing a really decent 9/11 ep with all of them but WTH was that last episode before hiatus? Oy.
Castle - okay, I guess, they`re even handling Castle and Beckett as a couple reasonably well (in the "it could be way worse" sense)
NCIS - same old, same old, nothing ever changes here (unless a cast member wants out)
NCIS Los Angeles - pure popcorn entertainment but on that level it works, it`s uncanny, though, how many bad guys the team shoots in every single episode, I can think of no procedural that is sooo trigger-happy
Arrow - still like it, still like gloomy Ollie and even liked his fling with Helena though you could see that while in some level, they understood each other, on another, it couldn`t work; thing is, Oliver is so profoundly lonely, he is a very tragic character for me
Supernatural - better than the last three years but the writing issues in general (pacing, multiple plots at least for main characters, lazy characterization issues) didn`t improve as much as I previously hoped, would watch the shit out of Dean/Cas/Benny hunting as a trio though
Criminal Minds - much like NCIS, same old, same old, the new character brought nothing in terms of new dynamics, she neither enrages nor enraptures, and the background secret arc about some super serial killer targetting the team and Reid having a mystery girlfriend? Eh.
The Vampire Diaires - oh dear, it`s kinda like riding a train but thinking you spot a large gap in the tracks further down the road, you`re not sure yet and you have some hope it will all work out but, like Han Solo, you have a bad feeling about it; Caroline used to be a fave of mine, right now she annoys me with the hypocritical judgmentalism and I hope I haven`t been rooting three years for a certain couple to get...this? Two sex scenes that have Stefanoline babbling all over them?
Beauty and the Beast - yup, still watching. Anyone`s guess as to why because it`s really pedestrian but I have developed this stubborn desire to see the titular characters together because, seriously, glaciers move faster than this.
Person of Interest - like it as much as in Season 1, two wonderfully stoic characters bringing each other back into the world, and the machine trying to hook up Finch is just so incredibly cute, awww.
Elementary - enjoy it more than I thought I would and I`m really, really impressed that so far they haven`t validated my cynical belief that soon enough Sherlock and Watson would play the will they/won`t they game
The Big Bang Theory - it still makes me laugh occassionally but why did Amy get the sexaholic character overhaul? That`s cringeworthy.
Fringe - this Season is weird for me, I don`t dislike it but it never really got going for me until the short interlude with Observer!Peter, I`m happy he isn`t going permanently bald and weird but at least the pace picked up steam
Haven - I do not understand why Nathan was a mega-dick to Duke for most of the Season and then reverted back to friendly-if-weary-Nathan as if nothing happened. I like the change but do not understand the characterization here. That said, I have quite enjoyed the Season for the most part.
Grimm - holy crap, they really brought a few things to a head, hopefully that doesn`t mean curtains for a positive Nick/Renard partnership in the future
Merlin - like I said, the only question becomes on how much they are gonna screw up Christmas as it seems crystal clear that after a Season of "Arthur will die" teasers, he will indeed die in the Finale. And Merlin will take him to Avalon and will be immortal, waiting for him in modern times. And the big stupid destiny they had together that got teased and prophesized all throughout the entire show will have been just a red herring. Or postponed to AU Future Fanfics.

I am not sure... Something has changed about the show. I don't think it's because of the new character, I think the writing is just different.
The show always killed and maimed women, but this season it feels as if they are going to new heights here. They do kill men, but they never spent a lot of time with that, they usually just show their discarded bodies. It is always women right in the middle of it it, and a lot of time is spent just showing and glowing in their suffering.
I have started to feel very uncomfortable watching CM, and for the first time I am getting where Mandy Patinkin is coming from when he said he stopped doing the show because he didn't know they would torture women on a weekly basis. I am actually close to stop watching the show, too.

I think that has been going on for a while now, though. At least I noted an influx in female victims for the last two or three years. Even when you just hear about a couple being murdered, it is nearly always "the guy got one shot to the head but the woman was shot twenty-five times on top of being stabbed..."
Admittedly, the single cases all blur together but I remember going "seriously, again?" a few times in the last few Seasons.
But I have to agree on especially the episode with the marionettes, it was really, really pronounced with the woman suffering the most horrific tortures and the men just being discarded or the one guy who shared her fate, you didn`t seen anything of what he went through.
I think the show has pretty much played itself out in general and should be allowed to end but it`s already a certain renewal.

Date: 2012-12-19 02:18 pm (UTC)It only took 30s of shaky camera for me to decide not to watch it. I don't need that headache.

Ah, so I didn't read that wrong in the TWOP recaplets. I guess I can go delete those episodes now...

Date: 2012-12-19 02:44 pm (UTC)I had a very hard time getting through it myself because of that - shaky cam is NOT my thing - but the schmaltz and the WTF-ness of it all were somehow worse. I don`t know, it had something of an accident, for some reason you had to keep looking at it. *shakes head*

It was really weird. At the end of ep 8, they obviously wanted to put in the big cliffhanger dun-dun-dun ending where Caroline and Stefan yapped about the sire bond in contrast to Damon and Elena getting it on.
And half the fans bitched about it.
Then the next episode starts exactly the same way. As if we hadn`t all seen that same scene at the top of the last episode AND in the previouslies of this next one.
It was like the same fucking scene.
I could understand doing it once for storytelling reasons but twice? That just looked weird. One frame you have Caroline and Stefan making bug eyes of "ZOMG, this is really happening" and the next you have Damon and Elena making bug eyes because they orgasm at the same time (very graphic for a network show, I thought). But still, huh?
