Special snowflakes...

Okay, does anyone want to punch Stefan and Caroline in the faces, like lots and lot and lots?
After being bitchy, judgemental and self-righteous as fuck for the last two episodes, they both seemed to make some headway at the end of the last one. However, no we`re having them back in all their obnoxious glory when they wax poetic on how they just can`t hate KLAUS. Because hey, they`re all murderers.
While the second part is fair point, though Caroline technically isn`t in the same league as Stefan is (or Damon or Klaus or anyone) and likely never will be with her one out-of-control feeding-kill. Neither is Elena really. But basically, it is nice that they may acknowledge how neither of them is a moral person. Not even before the vampirism really. Anyone out of the group is expendable. Always has been, always will be.
So that didn`t bother me. But both are still aparently on their "Damon getting together with Elena is the evilest evil that ever eviled" kink, with Caroline cheerleading Stelena`s epicness and Stefan "Damon is so WRONG for her" Salvatore.
You can do all this and can still have fuzzy warm feelings for Klaus? K.L.A.U.S.?
I have no words and I LIKE Klaus in all his hybrid-ripping, special-snowflake painting glory. At least he isn`t a bloody, fucking hypocrite.
Also, Stefan was shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn how "together" Damon and Elena really were. What the hell was his dramatic flouncing at the end of episode 7 supposed to mean then? Stefan breaks up with her because she has feelings for Damon now (she had them for ages but apparently he can`t handle that anymore but whatever). Then Stefan does a dick move with Jeremy which makes it so Elena can`t live in her own home anymore, prompting her to show up at the Salvatore mansion with her suitcase. Stefan and Damon both answer the door, cue fraught looks all around and then Stefan snittily does a big martyr flounce.
I did assume he expected the hook-up and well, wanted to do a martyr flounce. Like, on purpose. Instead he just left and what, thought Damon and Elena had a little night-cap? Stared each other longingly all night? Played chess?
Normally, I might feel bad for him but the Stefan and Caroline fanclub of "how Stefan is awesome, Damon sucks and Klaus is kinda okay" sucks so much, I can`t.
Right now I feel very bad for Damon. And even Elena. Because irony of ironies, she is more free, more fun and more assertive with Damon than she ever was with Stefan. All this while the show is trying to sell me on a plotline that says she has to literally obey Damon`s every command in the most incosistent and wonky-written way ever.
Also, are we back on Beremy? Or is it Jonnie? While I never particularly disliked them as a couple (though my Jeremy OTP is with Anna), that seems odd.
But of course Damon will stay behind right now so that he can`t learn of the hybrid massacre of 12!!! and figure shit out. Because lets be realistic, he is the only of the group who always figures shit out. I mean, he gets ignored when he does but at least he does. When he says something is iffy, it usually is.
At least I like the dynamic with Jeremy because it always cracked me up that despite Damon snapping Jeremy`s neck, Jer always seemed to like Damon better than Stefan. He treated Stefan as some dude who banged his sister and whose "orders" he`d ignore but he often acts like a younger brother trying to impress a cooler older brother with Damon and despite huffing about it does something when Damon tells him to. Haha.

Date: 2012-12-14 06:14 pm (UTC)Since they claim the sire bond with Damon has been their idea since early Season 3, the execution of it should have made a lot more sense than it does. For Vampire Diaries, it`s a storyline so full of plotholes and WTF, the only way it would make sense is if it turned out to be another mindfuck like the sun and the moon curse.
You should not miss Klaus` painting though. It was - literally - a single special snowflake. Hee.

Date: 2012-12-15 08:27 pm (UTC)If they planned that from the beginning, why did nothing on the show point to it before Caroline and Stefan suddenly seemed to pull the whole thing out of their asses?
I still didn't watch the latest two episodes yet, and somehow I am still not interested in doing it anytime soon.

Date: 2012-12-15 09:27 pm (UTC)Apparently the storyline with the hybrids unbreaking their sire bond was supposed to keep the thought fresh in viewers minds.
And sure, enough I read some speculation on Elena turning out to be sire-bonded to Damon just because of it very early on but it`s not like she acted any differently towards him.
The previous to-last-episode even cleared some things up on how a sire bond forms in the first place but it`s like both Stefan and Damon had wax in their ears during that scene, considering their later actions. At least with Damon I can buy it because of his miserable track record in always having Stefan picked over him.
And then of course everything else we learned about the sire bond just muddied the waters.
An interesting theory I read is that Professor Shady has secretely hypnotized Elena into following Damon`s commands, thus getting everybody to believe she is sired to Damon.

Date: 2012-12-14 07:16 pm (UTC)I saw a comment on TWoP abut how Carolin acts more sire-bonded to Stefan than Elana does to Damon and I think it's completely true.
Agree on all your other points too, especially looking forward to Damon and Jeremy bonding time. I actually adore Damon's interactions with everyone on the show. I love the way he just calls people on their crap, whether he's likely to kill them or not. LOL!
I actually am not crazy about Klaus because I feel like he's just part of the Stefan fan club. It kind of ruined Katherine for me too. It's not that I dislike Stefan in general, but I really loath his hypocrisy and the way he treats his brother. He and Sam Winchester should get T-shirts saying "I'm jealous of my big brother but I'm sooooo much better than him. Whaaaaaaa!"
As for Elana, I found her to be too much of Mary Sue at first, but I think Nina Dobrev is a good little actress and actually manages to keep Elana likable for the most part. But I've always felt like she is just so much more fun and alive with Damon than with Stefan so I really hope this sire bond business gets sorted out and she continues to fight for him. It's strange how invested I've suddenly become in that ship.

Date: 2012-12-14 07:53 pm (UTC)It really is. And the thing is, while she never liked Damon much (apart from when he was just "hot dude who can help raise my self-worth" at the beginning of Season 1) and I can`t blame her for not liking him, she was never as bas as this Season. They even grudgingly worked together here and there. They seem serious about remaking Caroline into Lexi 2.0. And as seen, Lexi not only was super-judgy towards Damon, based on absolutely nothing she had ever experienced but I believe she "helped" Stefan right into being a self-righteous, self-hating, delusional vampire who was bound to fall off the wagon over and over again.
I actually am not crazy about Klaus because I feel like he's just part of the Stefan fan club. It kind of ruined Katherine for me too.
With Katherine, they retconned it multiple times. She only loved Stefan, nope, she had genuine feelings for Damon, too. I do kinda think that the most kind thing she ever did for Damon was horribly reject him in the most brutal ways in the Season 2 Opener. And I think she did it on purpose to set him free. There was a flicker across her face there.
Also, my head canon is that is when SHE broke the sire bond that she had over Damon. Because that perfectly explains their relationship till then.
Klaus obviously clings to his bromantic feelings from the 20s about Stefan. But I don`t think it has much to do with Stefan as a person. Klaus` one big goal in life is to get a "family" that loves and accepts him in the way he wants. He is just that lonely.
Ironically, he pushed back the family who did love him. And for the weeks or so that 20s Ripper!Stefan felt a genuine bond with him, Klaus destroyed that too by compelling it out of him. Stefan now, even as a Ripper, can never be that person again yet Klaus is chasing a phantom from his past.
If he could give Stefan amnesia of the last 90 years, he`d have a shot but otherwise it`s a pipe dream. And even then, Stefan would eventually do something that Klaus wouldn`t forgive, just like Elijah or Rebecca. No love given to him has ever been good enough for him, not for eternity.
It's not that I dislike Stefan in general, but I really loath his hypocrisy and the way he treats his brother. He and Sam Winchester should get T-shirts saying "I'm jealous of my big brother but I'm sooooo much better than him. Whaaaaaaa!"
Heh.
Though another big irony of the show for me is that within the triangle, I have always believed that when it comes down to it Stefan loves Damon more than he loves Elena while Damon loves Elena more than Stefan. Elena`s preferences are now anyone`s guess.
But when Stefan was truly lost in Season 3, Elena was never enough to pull him back from the brink, it was Damon every time.
But I've always felt like she is just so much more fun and alive with Damon than with Stefan s
Agreed. She and Stefan, even when they had the semi-tortured Buffy/Angel thing going on in Seasons 1 and 2 just always lacked some passion. Elena and Damon can be explosive either way but one thing they always had is passion.
And there was a bonding between them pretty much early on. Their road trip in episode 11 of Season 1, that was when Damon was still more or less the villain and the show was still working on getting Elena and Stefan properly together, heck it was their first big angst as a couple but the episode itself also started Damon and Elena as legit couple potential. It was unreal.
I really hope this sire bond business gets sorted out and she continues to fight for him. It's strange how invested I've suddenly become in that ship.
I always rooted for them so I do hope they don`t pull a failsafe Stelena switch again once the bond is broken.
I kinda think the next episode will be key. From the promo and spoilers I read, it could either be a big strike against Stelena or already be a rebonding of sorts.

Date: 2012-12-14 09:50 pm (UTC)That`s the big question. Julie Plec is a Stelena stan so if it`s up to her alone, no dice.
Also, it depends on if they want to go opposite of the book stories. I was really weirded out to read that the author of the books was fired and replaced by a ghostwriter (since unfortunately the original author had also only been hired as a writer to write from a publisher`s pre-existing concept) because she wanted to go with a Delena ending but the publisher insisted on Stelena. Yikes.
Now it would make sense to have the show be opposite and I assume the rights to the show are completely separated from the book rights so they could do it. But again, difficult to say.
I read it`s conceptionalized for 6? years so this would be kinda half way point. Season 1 and 2 were pretty much Stelena, Season 3 worked to get a move on with Delena and now Season is exploring them. So they need to throw in another wrench for Seasons 5 and 6.
It`s hard to believe in show-time it`s not even been two years. At least that`s what I`m thinking. Season 2 picked up right where 1 left off so there was no "summer break". But between Seasons 2 and 3 we had one while 4 picked up right after 3 again. And they were juniors at the beginning of S1 but seniors only at the beginning of S3.
So basically, everything that has happened so far happened in one and a half years. If you go by that, Delena got together pretty quickly. :)

Date: 2012-12-14 10:25 pm (UTC)I haven't read much about Julie Plec, but from the little I've seen this season, she seems to be presenting D/E as a legit couple in their own right, as opposed to just a roadblock on the way to S/E.
In fact, I feel like they are actually pushing Damon over Stefan with all the conditional/unconditional love stuff. But if and when someone gets cured, I guess that could change the game again.
I would assume D/E is the more popular couple given Damon's runaway popularity on the show. But that doesn't really seem to mean much in the larger scheme of things.
However, if both Nina and Ian are pushing for D/E, that could affect things in our favor. We all know how much BTS politics plays on screen. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
