The one with the Cottages...

astri13So long, House, you were like an English medical vocabulary crash course ("lupus" and "auto-immune" are words that I personally feel will NEVER leave me, for sheer repetition alone *g*) and, during the first few years, genuinely enjoyable entertainment for me. You were also possibly the show with the most main cast changes I ever watched. Some of which I liked, some of which I really didn't.
Doing Sherlock Holmes as a grumpy, pill-addicted yet genius doctor was a cool and refreshing idea at the time and you went out in the spirit of your "inspiration". That House would give up his heretofore first love "puzzles" for Wilson and only Wilson was a fitting ending. Stacy touched him. Cuddy touched him, some of his colleagues touched him (some more, some less) but in the end Wilson was the person to whom House was closest.
From that moment of smashing a window at a funeral where young Wilson caught young House' eye and made him go "hm, not boring", Wilson became the person House genuinely wanted in his life. Without feeling the need or desire to change himself to keep that relationship. A key difference to Huddy. Sure, in the end, House made a big change for Wilson but that's what made it so special.
Also, normally I don't like open endings but I prefered it here. Wilson will most certainly die in 5 months but hey, other people had miracle cures. I'm sure as doctors, they both know that. So, there is even a possibility for them to have a happy ever after.
I'm also happy Chase became House "heir". Of all the doctors House trained, he made the most sense for that position. While not a complete House-clone in personality, he is actually the closest to him in spirit.
Nice to see old familiar faces as well.
Which brings me to Cuddy/LE. Once upon a time, I thought Cuddy was a well-written female character and I think LE is a competent actress. I also don't know what happened BTS but her absence was kind of glaring since they brought everyone and their kitchen sinks back. I know the actress is and was adamant about not doing it so it's not the show's fault. I also wouldn't have wanted anything taken away from the House-Wilson of it, see above, but a short cameo like Masters or Kutner or whatever would have made things more complete IMO.
The same thing bugged me in the Charmed Finale with Prue/SD. I just have this thing that if you close out a really long-running show and you do a sort of "reunion" montage/ep in the end, then all the characters who at one point or another played an important role need to be acknowledged/referenced/seen.
That's more a technical complaint, though, than anything else.
When all is said and done, if I had to describe the ending in one word? It would be "sweet". Or maybe "concilliatory". :D
And would you know it took me fucking YEARS to figure out why the TWOP recaps called the doctors on House's team "cottages"? *headdessk*

Date: 2012-05-22 07:00 pm (UTC)They went for the irony and gave the oncologist terminal cancer which means Wilson dying in 5 months. And because they were about to sent House back to prison for another 6 months, he faked his own death and ran away with Wilson to be there for his friend. It was really quite sweet.
And it was an obvious parallel to the ending of Sherlock Holmes, too, with the faking his death.
*But I may or may have not watched the episode in which Chase gets stabbed. AHEM.
Hee. For a second there, I thought they'd leave Chase with a leg injury, too. And he would be the Gabrielle to House's Xena. :D

I mean, there are many people out there, in the world, who were told they would die in a few months but they didn't and lived on for years and years. Maybe without the stress, with House and just living...
