Watched my last superhero flick of the year, I guess? Or is there another big one upcoming? I love the genre still - though I'm not well-versed in most comics lore, as a kid I watched pretty regularly the X-Men cartoon as well as Spiderman and his amazing friends but that was about it - yet at this point, I'm feeling slightly oversatured with it. Four movies of the same type in one summer together are a bit close IMO. Not that I hated any of them, none were Wolverine or Fantastic Four. Yes, I'm usually pretty easy but even I have limits

That said,Captain America, I did really enjoy. Definitely looking forward to the Avengers now, especially Iron Man and Cap, having seen this one here. It also spend more time on character work - which I had heard before - and surprisingly less on special effects than I had previously figured.

In fact, out of all the superhero flicks this summer, I'd say it had the least big flashy scenes but featured perhaps the best "special effect" I have seen in the last decade. And I don't mean that in a snarky way, I was thouroughly impressed with the skinny kid Steve Rogers. Seriously, I did not at first realize that this was in fact Chris Evans. Kudos for that. Because I can easily see putting an actor in a fatsuit or something but making them appear shorter than their actual height and like a sack of bones? Impressive.

Chris Evans himself I also liked. And I say that as someone who finds Johnny Storm in the first Fantastic Four movie the most hateable character in a superhero flick since ever. Seriously, that guy was ALL surface, all the time. It was better in the second movie but maybe I unfairly put a lot of my frustrations on Evans. Though I had no problems with him in "Push". And I thought he made for a likeable hero in this one.

That said, X-Men is still hands-down THE summer flick/movie of the year for me, just like Star Trek was two years ago. Currently debating if it moves up to my number one spot of superhero movies or shares with Batman Beyond.

If I had to rate the comic adaptions this year, it'd go: 1) X-Men, 2) Captain America, 3) Thor and 4) Green Lantern.

Wait--Captain America's already been released in Germany? Seriously? I really need to watch that film for the like one minute Richard Armitage is in it!

Um. Cough, cough. It hasn't exactly come out in theaters if you mean that. ;-)

Heh, i was laughing through CA movie. I don't get how people can take it seriously. Also i think Evans was bad there. But then again i'm not a fan of comic books so for me almost all of them look stupid :)
