So, SPN 5.09
Can we get back to the mothereffing plot at some point? Is the apocalypse even still on? Somewhere?
I wasn't that bothered by the treatment of fans all that much but I am kind of over the relentless meta. Show always does that, punching a joke into the ground - and the not salting and burning it.
Why does a world exist where characters like Gordon, Henrikson and Pamela for example bite it but Becky doesn't? She is such a shrill, overly annoying twat, you might just as well rub nails over a chalkboard whenever she is on. And she comes across as an extremely immature teenager so Chuck gettting it on with her? Eh.
Btw, the deus ex machina lead on the Colt? Jesus Christ.
"Demian" and "Barnes" were actually okay. But that whole "lesson" thing at the end was just weird. "Oh, your lifes are so awesome, I only repair copy machines." That is like Luke Skywalker longing for adventure and romanticizing stuff back on Tattooine. Back before he lost a bunch of friends, his hand and a good chunk of his innocence. Which is to say, people might romanticize fictional "heroes" that way but to seriously present that as something that actually boosts the actual "fictional" heroes morale? Ludicrous. His life doesn't stop sucking one iota because some guys on their couch think it is "kewl" when they are reading the books. And I sure didn't see all that "awesomeness of family" back last year. In fact, I wouldn't want that kind of "family" if someone offered them to me. Meh, that whole thing was just ill-advised, nonsensical meta-commentary.
Liked the waitress/actress actually perking up when she saw what kind of "Dean" was hitting on her this time.
Couple good bits here and there but overall, a waste of time IMO. Especially during sweeps. AND, I can't stress this enough, the APOCALYPSE.
Next, please.

Date: 2009-11-14 06:50 am (UTC)First of all, the Con was mostly men. In what reality would that happen?
Especially since they flat out said there was to be a panel on homoerotic subtext. Were they trying to tell me the men are listening to that? Really?
And then they go and make the first hero fans men, too, of course. Whereas the lone talking female fan was the crazy person with the inappropriate touching who writes slash.
By the end of the episode I was getting pissed off at Kripke and the rest of TPTB. And I usually do not get pissed off at the the show. But this was... just horribly bad and offending.

Date: 2009-11-14 11:17 am (UTC)At this point I'm thouroughly sick of comedy filler. It's worse for me than the Season 7 Buffy apocalypse where at least they talked about it.
What I did mind was the treatment of the female fans in this episode.
Of course it was bad but that doesn't surprise me anymore. I would have to check back in the earlier Seasons if a lot of the female characters I liked were written by freelance writers but since they have become a fixed writing team, they managed to hit on practically all of my squicks there. Jo begat Bela begat Ruby2.
And since "Becky" has been modelled after a prominent LJ-fan (who finds that flattering), I don't know how much I should be creeped out by the fact that Chuck aka the creator "landed" her in the end. Whereas in RL Jared thinks fondly of words like "restraining order".
I don't know if that was Kripke's fantasy convention a la "why don't more guys like my guys show? I'm a guy, flail" yet kept the stuff in he knows about online fandom.
I just am over this whole fan meta - too much at this point. Demian and Barnes from TwoP get the hero-shoutout, Becky gets to be the creator's squeeze and the German fan who actually dared to nitpick like me got whacked. Whatever.
