So, I guess Dollhouse and Sarah Connor Chronicles are pretty much goners with these numbers. Under 4 Million? Little SPN on craptastic CW managed to beat that for the Season Premiere.
And it's not that I dislike the shows, in fact I really dig Sarah Connor and Dollhouse, well, there is some potential in it but I don't see Fox sticking with it. Also, I guess DLH hasn't accumulated an insta-Whedon fandom or something, either. And just once in a blue moon when a show manages to severely annoy me with its treatment of women.
Or to be fair with its treatment of people since there are clearly young nubile male dolls who aren't faring better but Echo is pretty much the main figure for the audience.
But, seriously, it could be renamed "Whorehouse" or "Slavery Central" and I realize it is supposed to be skeevy and the organization supposed to be seen as evil. See the evil female boss who conducts her engagement interviews with clients like a Madam and the head of security who is an umigitated asswipe.
BUT the lab tech? I get the feeling he is supposed to read as one of these nerdy-cute characters which makes me hate him more because he is fucking skeevy and evil like the rest of them. He basically gets off and pats himself on the back for his own cleverness while he gleefully participates in some of the most vile acts you can perform on humans.
And Dr.Scarface Acker? She seems to have a tiny bit of conscience left but doesn't do anything either.
The flashback with Alpha slaughtering his way through the Dollhouse? I fucking cheered him on. The dolls are seriously better off - even slaves are allowed to be self-conscious - and the people working there are vile scum. Too bad the lab tech wasn't killed, too.
Only the ex-cop/handler/father figure is sympathetic to some degree. Not enough to act but at least he tries within the confines of this life.
Still, it's not too conductive to entertainment wanting to reach into the screen and axe-murder most of the characters.
I don't have a real problem with depiction of prostitution or slavery per se but I'm not sure I want to watch the protagonist of a show lead the life of an extreme slave for the whole duration of said show. There was a reason why Dark Angel started with Max escaping or Pretender with Jarod on the run.
Even my beloved Alec, who had a fucking personality even while at Manticore and clearly worked the system a little bit, I could have not have watched in "the Manticore years" and seen him get used and abused with no real means to fight back. Even though played by Jensen Ackles, I would totally have watched it anyhow. But I would have wept in grief after each episode. Ahem.

As for Dollhouse, it is certainly not unwatcheable but probably also not long for this world. I guess the 13 ordered episodes are it so I figure I can watch them and not really get invested anyway.
