Reaction to the Director`s cut for 2.05 seeing as it was one of the scenes I dreaded most from the sides:
They did the metallic Dune-voice. One brownie point for I love Dune. And did you know it had semi-incestous siblings? ; P
Oooo-kay, they totally did lose the Sam suddenly is all ears part. Two brownie points.
Leaving the ethics of mind-control aside as in the total lack of respect for the dignity of another human being which is why this "naive loveable dork" Andy excuse doesn`t work for me - nobody is so stupid as not to know that is fundamentally wrong and the world is not your candy store - I can live with that scene because everyone here plays to the comedy.
Dean talks like a mile a minute with a big grin on his face, Sam looks like a gaping fish - a gaping fish on a bicycle that is and Andy looks like he might rethink using his powers of mind-control because he obviously picked on weirdos this time. :)
So yes, still don`t like the basic concept of playing mind-control for fun but SPN isn`t the first show to do that but at least they don`t do it here at the expense of just one character.
Buffy did it on "Superstar" with dorky Jonathan yet played it to full-out rape with creepy Warren. *cough* Stargate Atlantis recently did it too from what I hear.
I guess the writers don`t really sit down and think about how they as a person would feel if somebody came in and would make them do stuff against their will. How helpless and violated you would feel.
"Huh" to the big reveal of "I think he might be right"? Sam seemed totally unfazed by it so they totally downplayed any angst potential on this. Also his "shut up" might be annoying because they know of the compulsion but I guess he is thrown here because he didn`t get the effect.
As for his immunity, since it is my theory that the PKs are supposed to form a unit and it makes sense that the mind-control dude shouldn`t be able to control them all, I could deal if every PK-kid is immune to the MK-dudes but not to any other PK-power. Like the premonition guys can still have premonitions about all the other kids, the TK-kids can fling everybody around etc but the mind-controllers who have the trickiest power can`t control them. Because all the others can only hurt each other but the MK could control all of them as a unit. Way too risky if they turn loose cannon.
I guess we`re gonna meet a telepath, maybe an empath. Not sure about firestarters, guess that`s the demon`s gig.
That would mean that it is the only immunity the PKs have regarding psychic powers.
Still be annoyed if they fall into the funny-trap and give the "evil" twin the creepy rape and murder scenes while the little league rapist and thief gets excused, ha ha, but I look forward to this ep more now.
Side note, from the trailer do we think Sam offs Webber? Because that would be quite a step, a human kill? Would be cool if the writers won`t chicken out on this.
And if then in the future Dean goes off and finds some (dark, dangerous) means to counter-effect PK stuff, I`ll be a happy fangirl.
And hopefully the ratings will go up again. Stupid, what was is, baseball? I still think a move to another night would be good. At least they`re re-aring on Sunday, so maybe that gives a boost.

Date: 2006-10-21 04:39 pm (UTC)I know I have a tendency to be a little worry-head. :) And I couldn`t go cold turkey on spoilers if I tried, I`m much too impatient but I try to be more open and zen-like to it. And I`m really looking forward to all the episodes for which they`ve released spoilers now.
Yeah, SGA did a very similar episode and played it totally for laughs. I really enjoyed it and took it in the intent that they made it,but I know that alot of people found it offensive and weren't happy.
I realize that it is one of my personal sensitivity issues. I just can`t help thinking how I would feel if somebody could just make me his sock puppet, invade my mind and string me along to do whatever, humiliationg, physically harmful, sexual etc while I am helpless, forced to watch like I`m drugged. It`s one of my personal horror scenarios so I heavily empathize (maybe overly) with the victims and heavily despise the perpetrators.

Date: 2006-10-22 06:48 am (UTC)I felt really depressed after the SGA ep because I'd enjoyed it so much, but it was only when I read other peoples reviews that I understood what they were all saying. I was really cross with myself for being so shallow and for not seeing what others did see.
I just read a minor spoiler for Torchwood, that one of the characters uses an alien spray on a woman to get her to go home with him and if her boyfriend objects he uses it on him as well and they all go back together. I'll be very interested to see how this is handled and if a big deal is made of it. I can't imagine Jack condoning this behaviour at all.
