Okay, where is the FIC?

Really liked this one. New writer Julie Siege is coming along nicely.
Superb guest actors so I had no real problem with spending so much time on their story. And the way they out-foxed the younguns was pretty hilarious.
Sending Dean to the Blue Oyster Bar or this version of it made for a terribly amusing scene. I loved when "Chief" broke character to jovially inquire after the password. Heh. I guess better now than when you have someone bended buck-naked over a vaulting horse. *cough*
"You've never been had till you've been had by the Chief" also goes down as one of the greatest lines ever. I expect fic.
The interaction between the brothers was awesome as well. They worked well together as a team - and good divide on the casework, Siege, Dean didn't need to be a dumbboard nor Sam in the background to make it work, ha - and the convo about growing old vs. dying soon as well as Dean looking upon evil as a hydra instead of a snake fit their characters pretty well. Harkens back to Shadow for one.
Since I love Tarot cards, have my own deck and do readings for fun sometimes, I loved their inclusion here. And while the cards were pretty much chosen to represent the deaths, their actual meanings also fit with the plot.
Ten of Swords - Improvement. - For Jay, sure.
The Hanged Man - New way of Thinking - Jay, again, sure.
Magician - Fits for both Jay and Charlie.
Well done, little show.
I was insanely happy to have no Dean-Gluby interaction. Hooray.
On the other hand the Gluby-Sam ones made me hopeful for the first time that the story is going somewhere there. And that she has an evil, self-serving agenda after all since I loathe this Saint Demon crap. But really, she keeps changing her lines time and time again. "Wah, angels, I run away" quickly becomes "oh, I'll stay if there is a chance I can get Sam to use his powers" and "don't give a crap about the apokalypse" becomes "wah, wah, oceans of people are gonna die if I have a chance to get Sam to use his powers". I don't believe she cares about anything but that, getting Sam to use his powers. And she never said why/how/anything. She wants him to kill Lilith is FAR from an believable motivation for everything she does for me. Not to mention her being conveniently clued in in demon activities when she should be hunted by them.
The actress is, well, struggling to me. Maybe a personal thing though because her voice kinda grates, both when she is being all cutesy and when she tries to be badass.
Again, the anvils fell hard and fast but I really liked that Sam did go with Gluby in the end. That's the first I've seen this Season of an actual dark path ahead. So far it was a lot of tell and no show. Or the show was that everything was just peachy keen and perfect with the powers and Saint Ruby, if not for the mean, mean Angels. So, really my interest is finally piqued. I like dark heroes more anyway and thus found Sam possibly slipping down the slippery slope as engaging as I haven't felt in a long time. Batman over Superman any day of the week, baby.
Maybe the storylines can finally start rolling again.

You know what? When she appeared, she had her arms crossed. And I thought "Oh My God, RUBY is back!!!" If she had been able to deliver her lines after that, I think I would have forgiven her for the previous episodes. But no, that was the only moment she rocked. It's like she doesn't understand the meaning of the sentences she's telling so that she doesn't know how to give them.
Anyway, that's not the most important. I agree with you: SHE HAS TO HAVE AN EVIL PLAN. And that makes me happy! Don't disappoint me on this, show!

I think the actress can't really do "kick-ass" or snarky or anything of that kind. As a frightened person in peril she'd probably do good but as a demon? Oy.

Date: 2009-01-24 02:49 pm (UTC)I think it was a mixture of things. He wants himself and Dean to have a life beyond this because his focus is on Lilith, thinking if they kill Lilith, they are free of it all whereas Dean is thinking if they kill Lilith, the next Big Bad will just take her place.
