Question here, people. If Arthur ever was placed in the stocks, do you think the townsfolk would throw fruit at him? I mean, he IS their prince. On the other hand, IF he was put there, Uther would basically give permission, wouldn't he?

Yes, I probably have a) too much time on my hands, b) watched episode 7 too many times or c) both. :-p

Mmh, good question. We have two possibilities here:

-either Arthur would be put in the stocks but no fruit-throwing would be allowed. I wouldn't be surprised if a different rule would apply for nobility.

-or fruit-throwing would be allowed because, in a way, I can imagine Uther thinking of it as a valuable lesson. But nobody would dare to do it anyway. Except for Merlin. And Morgana of course.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Or at least that the people would be unsure enough about the whole thing, they wouldn't dare to test the theory.

That's what a normal person would do. But knowing Merlin, I really much doubt he would miss the opportunity to take his sweet revenge on Arthur, even if it would mean even worse work conditions after that. Merlin strikes me as a "living in the moment" kind of guy. And I enjoy Arthur making his life miserable so much, I wouldn't dare to want him to change! LOL

I thought so, too, which is why it really surprised me when Arthur offered it so readily in "Poisoned Chalice", like it was even an option he believed possible.

Of course a more interesting question would probably be: what would Uther do if he somehow believed Arthur was a sorcerer/warlock. That could get ugly.

It certainly would. I think the question is does Uther hate magic enough to have his son executed and leave his country without a natural heir to the throne... Hm, something to ponder.

And I thought: wait a minute, why the stocks? Did that ever happen before? If he had said "keep me in the dungeon for a month/have me flogged/something else", I would have find it less surprising.

Concerning the question of the heir, I would think Uther wouldn't want a magic user as king anyway so it probably comes down to his love as a father vs. his totally hate-on for all magic.
