Hm
Stargate Atlantis
First off, I missed the team. Rodney had a cameo and the others were nowhere to be seen. Poor Ronon especially. Some fun action stuff and he misses it.
Secondly, the newly introduced female team. Well, I kinda got a look into what the PTBs probably mean when they say SGU will be more "youth-orientated" because, hello, two out of four people on that team looked WAY, way too young for their corresponding military rank. Captain with 21, huh? Do love Christina Cox though.
And why did they have Sheppard make a big thing about it in the beginning just to have a stupid joke in? The guy never really blinked at the fact that he had two female leaders or when he recruited a female for his team so why the big-eyed "giiiiirls?" reaction. Come on.
The flirtation between Porter and Carson was kinda weird and seemed tagged on.
The obnoxious gun-toting seargant was...obnoxious. And not because she was a woman but because of the personality would have been obnoxious on anybody. But I fear that she is EXACTLY the kind of character the writers envision for SGU. Urgh.
Otherwise, I do like people being confined somewhere and hunted by monsters. Of course I did wonder why they didn't just try and dial out. Gate broken?
So, this one gets a so-so from me. I would have liked it better with the actual team than with "spin-off test reel" team. Kinda reminded me of Highlander Season 6 where they did it in every episode.

The episode was saved only by the generous amount of Sheppard.

At the moments I`m so sensitive with this issue because I`m beyond tired with all the mysogyny rants that make it seem like all the damn world is out to get poor, victimized women-me. Man, even McKay doesn`t feel so put upon by the universe.
And then when the writers write in such stupid jokes it will only feed in the "men are such sexist pigs and out to get the poor victimized women". Even though the character hasn`t been like that ever.
God, it`s such a self-feeding prophecy, I hate it.

True. Sheppard makes everything better.

LOL When I was watching the episode, I kept thinking this was supposed to mean something--like something would come of it, that it was leading to some important story point or something, but...no. She was was. heh
I just found this episode to be extremely boring. They used a tired old story, but did nothing to make it unique or fun or interesting--and they didn't even have most of the main characters there, and it wasn't even really a John episode. He was just there, too. hehe

Sadly I think the whole point was "she is kick-ass, ain`t she kick-ass? Aren`t we awesome feminists." Uhm, no.
Same with the *snicker snicker, women in the military? score* scene. Uhm, Shep is the Atlantis military commander, and I`m pretty sure his duties include handling personel which means he has to okay every team that is being put together. So, he would most likely kinda already KNOW about it consisting of women.
So the joke was only put in to have him suddenly be sexist so the women could look superior to sexist men. Because gosh golly, I don`t feel validated as a women until I find me some male apes to feel superior too. I`m also five years old. *headdesk*
and it wasn't even really a John episode. He was just there, too. hehe
At least he and his hair looked hot while doing so. I`ve learned to take small comforts where I can find them. *g*

And the whole kick-ass female thing... I guess that went over my head. I wouldn't have liked her if she'd been a guy either.
But also, yeah, the points you made about Sheppard and his reaction made no sense. <-- ETA: Oops. This is the second time I've done something like this today. Your points made sense! Sheppard's reaction is what didn't make sense. Sorry about that. *g*
Nowadays, nobody in the military would act that way or react that way. Maybe thirty years or forty years ago, but not now. That was just ridiculous.
