I feel old

It's been many, many years since I watched a TV-show that featured this scene:

Boy and girl go on date - boy's daddy issues get in the way and they start fighting, boy smashes something in anger, girl runs away, boy chases after her and tearfully apologizes - they KISS.

If this means nothing to you, you weren't a teenager in the 80s. :-p Anyhow, my 12/13 year old? (like I said, many, many years) mind adored that scene. And even recently when I watched it again, I still felt shivers of nostalgia. Even though knowing that if I saw something like that today, my cynical self would rip it to shreds.

Now, out of plain curiosity I watched another show of the same name - hard to guess what I'm talking about here, I know. *g* And in this case, time makes all the difference. My cynical self went to town because my pink-robe-clad nostalgia self wasn't there. So, this was my first and last foray down memory lane in that particular case.

Heh. I said it wasn't hard. :D Don't even know why I watched it because I knew like the original it would be a show for early teens and unlike when the original aired I`m no longer one. God, I even once had a T-shirt with the cast on it. Oh, of being young and stupid. :)

Wow, I'm even amazed you made the effort to look one episode! I won't have the courage...

Though who am I to talk, I've just watched the new episode of One Tree Hill. Even if this show is very bad, I just can't stop to watch it... Though strangely enough, I couldn't stand it at first when I was younger and now, I've just lowered my expectations so much than I can stand it.

Just did it for old times`sake, to see how the old cast would be played and the 5 or so minutes they were on-screen were the most interesting as it is. I really don`t care about their off-spring/younger siblings.

But then I can`t stand soaps in general anymore whereas I used to watch a lot of them when I was younger. Guess my taste buds drasticalyl changed. :)

Oh, shoot, now I want to see the scenes with the old cast in it! I guess I'll just have to look for them on youtube.

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of soaps myself but sometimes, they are just perfect when you need to do all those things that are boring but necessary and you'd rather do it in front of the TV. Every time I hear the music from One Tree Hill, my hand reaches for the tweezers... *g*

The only thing I want to know is: Did Brenda marry Dylan?

Nope. Don`t think so at least. It`s a bit up in the air who the father of Kelly`s kid is though I`d say it`s Brandon - from the hair, it`s clearly Steve. But the reunion between Kelly and Brenda was pretty much just about how things have been strained between them for too long - unspoken Dylan there - yet they didn`t mention him.

I think alot of people tuned in out of curiosity. Which is probably why it did so well in the ratings(that and the fact that Demon Ostroff through the whole CW advertizing budget at it and Gossip Girl). My fingers are crossed that alot of the curiosity seekers will have your reaction - "Did I really used to like stuff like this?...." and not tune in again. :)

I certainly expected good numbers considering the insane amount of promotion they did for it and the nostalgia factor but I`m not sure about staying power.

Teens these days have a dime a dozen of those shows. Back then BH was not only new as a soap for teenagers but it pretty much cornered the market there.

Still, the show almost needs to not be a flop, at least in Season 1 because otherwise that whole network is done. If they can`t show to launch one lousy show that takes in the ratings, it`s adios after this Season.

And for SPN, I`m pretty sure nothing changes. They`ll get treated like the redheaded stepchild anyway but at least they`d have a network to air on. Warner would probably push for it to edge out at five Seasons and a nice 100-ep package and the CW would do it because they need both Warner and CBS and it`s a rather smallish request.

Afterwards, everything on this godforsaken network can fail, fail, fail. *g*

I was a teenager during the 80s, and yet I still have no memory of this. And I used to watch "Dynasty"... but thinking back, I can't remember much of it except the incredible *hair* and someone called Dex Dexter (the most ridiculous name ever) and a bunch of amnesiacs and abductions and weddings with fake European princes.

No smashing things on dates, I'm afraid. ;-)

I might have been mixing up the decades a bit since of course BH 90210 was during the 90s. *cough* *g*

*lip wibble* The first kiss of Brenda and Dylan?

I know I watched this show, too, but... I don't remember any smashing...? I do remember something about a hotel room after the prom? But somehow that didn't work out?

Don`t, I remember Dynasty too, especially the part where Blake`s newfound daughter married Robin Hood in a made-up European country and then everyone got shot. *g*

The de-virginization hijinks? Yup, though it did work out in the end. :)

The first kiss was pretty early in Season 1.
