There was tiny spoiler or rather non-spoiler? How do you call it when something is said NOT to happen? in the latest Ask Aussiello
Usually I wouldn`t bother posting it it`s so insignificant to any plot-issues going on but I LOVE it and I hope it`s true, now and always. Again reading that would likely not give anything away about any plot or real character issues, it`s more an extreme side-thing (though still important to me :)

Question: Do you know if anything will ever happen between Dean and Bela on Supernatural before we run out of new episodes? — Katrina
Ausiello: If by "anything" you mean "knockin' boots," the answer, per series creator Eric Kripke, is no. " Sorry, no Dean-Bela hookups. They hate each other too much. If anything, Bela becomes more antagonistic."

Please, please, please, let that always remain the case. They had Bela do things way too much over the line that I would buy Dean overlooking them - other than giving her the clichéd little redemption. She is near sociopathic, you already half-way write her that way, now drop the cutefying of it and it might actually work. Sociopaths aren`t cute and the heroes don`t think they have "style".

Ha, that made me very happy too! I pumped my fist in the air shouting YES!

[identity profile] astri13.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. It filled me with glee.

Yaaay! Also, did you read the interview with Kripke where he admitted Red Sky At Morning was a mistake? :-)

[identity profile] astri13.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, and I loved it. :) However it would be even better if instead of in hindsight to always said "oh this didn`t work" to LEARN from it and avoid it beforehand. I mean RSAM was a worse version of No Exit. So it`s not like it would be any surprise that it failed.

Well, maybe the 6th episode of Season 4. *g*

I know. I couldn't help but think "Oh, you DO realise you made the exact same mistake in season two, yes? Even IN EPISODE SIX?" :-)

But, last season improved significally after No Exit, so here's hoping. Well, only four more eps to hope for but... (and DON'T spoiler me :-) )

NO I DON'T :-p And while we're at it, I don't want to know about the Marshmellow Man either :-)

That's good. 'Cause while Bella might think Dean hot and he might secretly enjoy being admired, she is totally creepy and he knows it So Well.

So true. These two would be a match made in hell - and we`re not there yet. *g*

I wish I could be happy with this spoiler, but I've read other spoilers that make me far more unhappy than this one could cheer me up. And actually, what I read wasn't so much a spoiler as an episode summary thingee for one of the upcoming episodes.

I don't think Bela could ever work for this show, no matter what they do or how they do it, though.

Yeah well, I`ve generally lowered my expectations this Season - and then some. Sad but true.

I don't think Bela could ever work for this show, no matter what they do or how they do it, though.

She is a character that shouldn`t be in more than at the most 3 episodes a Season because she is so tangential to anything. I mean it makes sense that people make money of the Supernatural but in the nitty-gritty world of hunters and demon wars it makes less sense to see them.

There was a character on Firefly - Saffron - who appeared twice and was a kind of con-artist and she worked.
However it seems they`re going the Vala-route and didn`t even bother to get Claudia Black.

Yeah. I meant as far as how they plan to use Bela on the show.

I don't think Bela should be on this show at all, even for one episode. *g*

However it seems they`re going the Vala-route and didn`t even bother to get Claudia Black.

Yep. And that ruined SG-1 for me completely. I never watched all of the last season and I have no interest in the movies coming out. It made me dislike Daniel to the point where I can't even watch the earlier seasons that I used to love--at least not most of the time. They ruined him as a character for me.

And that's with Claudia Black playing the part. She was amazing, and fun to watch and I loved her and had a massive girl-crush on her. *g* That alone kept me from tuning out even sooner.

Lauren C. is no Claudia Black, and this type of character is one that I really can't stand on any show. As with SG-1, though, it's even more what it does to Dean than just her presence, though on this show, her presence (and the presence of all the other guest characters--too much focus on everyone and everything but Sam and Dean and too much separation of Sam and Dean) also bothers me.

Ah well... *g*

They hate each other too much.

I don't think so, to me it looked more like a behaviour of two 5 year olds who show their affection this way...I guess XD XD XD

[identity profile] astri13.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, Dean/Bela is my greatest squick. I find her to be a morally bankrupt and rotten person who embodies the things Dean loathes, not to mention committed acts he`d find unforgiveable - out of character reactions from him notwithstanding - and as such if he possesses the integrity he so far has she`d be a no-go for him.

That faux flirting and the fact that he frequently gets dumbed down to make her look better made "Red Sky" an atrocious episode for me. Sigh.

[identity profile] all-feeling.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
She is definately bad a person. But it's kinda confusing how they created her character...she's similar to Gordon character...seems friendly at first but turns out to be a complete asshole.

[identity profile] astri13.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the problem was the writers trying to have it both ways, on one side she acts like an antagonist, committing near-evil acts yet on the other side the writers seem to want her to be seen as some kind of adorable, cute and not so bad to test out some romantical chemistry with Dean.

Well, that was doomed to failed. Either she is an antagonist or she is not. The idea of the character was good but so far the execution hasn`t worked. Needs a major overhaul.

[identity profile] andromakhe001.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so weird I read that and was actually happy. I mean me, who doesn't trust Kripke as far as I could throw him. I think maybe it's desperation taking hold and I just SO want to believe he WON'T do it, he wouldn't destroy Dean's character that much. :) I was like YES!!!!::fistpump::

He had to be picking up on what almost everyone else was picking up on, which is Dean hates Bela, does not like her one bit and it's not in a "I hate you but I'm so attracted to you" way, it's in a "You really do repulse me" way.

Yeah, same here. Maybe they really did scratch the whole Bela the wonderful princess of light-redemption idea that Gamble talked about. God please.

OMG. Gamble really is Marti Noxon, eh??

*bleargh*

[identity profile] astri13.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha. Also sadly not untrue. I think Gamble in her original stories really has a strong tendency towards Mary Sue`s with grrrl power and some contrived erotica.

Which for a show like SPN is POISON. Would be better suited for Smallvile, they do that all the time.

[identity profile] nachekana.livejournal.com 2008-01-18 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't say I'm sorry about that! Or maybe I'm a bit dissapointed by the loss of the opportunity to see Jensen shirtless... Yes, I know, shallow... *blushes*

Also, you wrote that: "Yeah well, I`ve generally lowered my expectations this Season - and then some. Sad but true." And I was wondering: you really don't like this season? I know a lot of people are dissapointed in it but I really like it so far. I know some episodes weren't that good (RSAM and Sin City didn't really do it for me) but the rest's just great for me. I like to have people's opinion on this season. :)

Unfortunately compared to the last Season at this point Season 3 is not really doing it for me. To be fair though I don`t like both the deal - hated it in the Season 2 Finale - and the Boy King storyline since I find storyline about terminally ill people dreadfully boring, especially when it`s their own fault (I had little to no sympathy for the people in Crossroad Blues), and I'm overdosed on Chosen One stories.

So for the overall themes of the Season I`m incredibly meh. If they can give Dean an actual active, plotty storyline from this that ends up about him and if Sam (or Dean) doesn`t end up some literal Anti-Christ figure maybe but so far I fear I`m out of luck.

The first two episodes I was majorly disappointed, with the first half of "Kids are alright" suffering from atrocious writing. Bad Day was funny but ultimately forgettable. Sin City was better but could have been really good if the town had been an actual Sin City. Bedtimes Stories was solid but Gaygate didn't need to be in it. RSAM is the lowpoint of all three Seasons for me. Fresh Blood could have been perfect if not for the Bela-parts that made no sense whatsoever. And the Christmas one had a few issues with terrible exposition but was otherwise good.

Thus all in all the last two episodes are the only ones I really care to rewatch much. After eight episodes in Season 2 the only two I did not like were "Simon Said" and "No Exit". Which makes it a ratio of 6 out of 8 and now it's 2 out of 8.

Sorry to be a downer but this Season has just not brought the squee to me. :/

[identity profile] nachekana.livejournal.com 2008-01-18 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand that if you're not really into the deal storyline, the season must be less attracting than the others. I really like it because it brings some very emotional scenes between the boys and that's enough to make me happy. As for the Boy King one, it has been there for so long that I don't even pay attention to it anymore!

I like your analyse of each episode. Fresh blood is definitely my favorite so far (Gordon was a great sociopath, though I understand that they couldn't have continued to bring him back again and again. Still, I will miss him!). I just have the feeling that I don't have the necessary hindsight to be more critical, maybe that's why I like this season so much. It's the first time that I have to wait each week to see the episodes as I haven't seen the 2 first seasons on TV, so my joy to finally see the episode tends to cloud my judgement! ;)

Anyway, thanks for giving me your opinion. As the last 2 episodes were the best so far, we can hope that the new episodes will be even better! Well, if they're finally aired one day, that is....
