Saw 3.04.

So yeah, I didn`t hate it but wasn`t blown away either. On the whole it was just very slow and expositionary with some good bits but not enough to make me jump up and down in excitement.

- Dean - Casey, their interaction was really well-played on both sides, why does this show do better with the casting of smallish parts? and I like that Dean is now in the loop more which will hopefully give him some direction again
On the other hand, all the info given in that scene ranges from "So?" to "Oh dear, you bit off way more than you can chew, show."

"Demons are just like humans." Please keep away from the moral shadyness. And I LOVE moral shadyness but since the days of Season 1, you haven`t been able to pull off true, subtle grey zones. Not once. And worse then NO grey is half-assed grey.

"Demons think humans are bad." I never thought they didn`t.

"The Theology of Demons and Storylines of ZOMG!Biblical!Stuff!Of!Epic!Proportions." The YED plan barely made sense. But at least it was kept relatively personal to the brothers. Now it`s all Demon War - I don`t care about - and Sam the Messiah of Hell - I don`t care about.

- I do care about Sam the person at the moment -quite a lot - but the more they are banging me over the head with his superspeshul destiny of worldspanning epicness, the more I lose interest again. That`s too out there for me. It`s okay in a show I started watching with that premise but we started with two relatively normal guys being thrown in extraordinary circumstances. Now one might be the AntiChrist. Meh.

If I were a demon - and could throw him into a windshield - I wouldn`t even DREAM about bowing down to him.
Also if he were the one and only Chosen, then everything on this show is predestined. John raising them as he did, Dean being screwed-up as he is. Because he needs the raise the Chosen One. Because OOPS, Messiah-guy croaked. That`s a hell of a plan.

So this whole storyline is of no interest to me right now. None. And while I have no opinion on Ruby, no hate, no love, she belongs in that convoluted mess so bzzzzzz. Either they pull a fast one on this plot that I haven`t seen yet - second half of the Season IF we get one - or I`ll start ffding it.

So Human!Sam will continue to hold my sympathy, MythSAM I`ll just blank out. I`ll just view them as completely different entities. Yay.

- Liked the guest actors. Casey and the Priest were really good. Richie was okay, Gen.Hammond wasn`t in much.

- Liked Dean being a competent hunter and generally giving us a bit of an insight into him.
While the nickel line was rather sleazy, I`ve kinda come to accept it by now.

And for the record, we have NO ONE seen doing an exorcism from memory. Not Bobby, not Tamara and not ever Sam either. So please show quit beating me on the head with the DimDean vs. Smart!Sam anvils. Who of them left his cell on when trailing somebody? SHOW, don`t tell.

- the last scene Sam - Ruby, honestly as someone who liked "Revenge of the Sith", I liked the scene better there. And it was basically the same.

All in all, I`m getting back with the characters but disliking the Myth-Plot. And since I only watch for the characters anyway, I guess that`s a bit unfortunate but fine.

And my personal views on eps aside, can I just say how much I resent the implication I see a lot at the moment that anybody who doesn`t like an ep and/or the Season so far is an idiot who doesn`t know quality or who likes bland cookie-cutter TV. Thanks for the condescenion, I guess. *headdesk*

You put that much emphasis on the big picture, and lose the personality of the show. It's already pretty much done that. Not that there hasn't been justification of the changes in characters, just that it doesn't necessarily make better television.

Agreed. I just don`t get how the argument "shows need to change and grow, they can`t stay stale" translates into the imperative to like the new Season. If any story brings in a new twist, readers/viewers are still free to like or dislike said twist based on their personal preferences. Just because it`s change doesn`t automatically make it entertaining or enjoyable for everybody.

And I'm sure someone's gonna read this comment and come in here and tell list all the stuff that Dean's done this season that makes him essential to the plot, but it's all seemed contrived to me, just something to give the other guy to do while the special does the important stuff.

Honestly right now I feel there is a show within a show, it`s about a special boy king trying to unravel the mysteries of his special origins. I do simply not care about this show.

And yeah, I can make up all kinds of things why Dean is essential to that plot. Thing is, I don`t believe so. Someone else not seeing it that way? Fine. But I have a right to my own perception and making up my mind based on it.

Introducing the Others was change on Lost and nobody cried foul when people said they didn`t like the change.
I just see some weird logics flying around, with an undertone of "it`s great because I (the poster in question) like it". So? Millions seem to love Grey`s, must I therefore love it too?

I honestly feel that way too. Someone else is seeing it differently is fine of course but I have a read to my own perception and making up my mind based on them, I think.

Oh dear, I beleive I have ranted in your private space. Please do be deleting if I offend in any way.

No, that`s fine. This is a rant-friendly place as long as it`s done in a respectful manner to other opinions. Which you totally were.

Oh, thanks for not beating me over the head. LOL. I swear, I just needed to get that off my chest. I love this show. It's pretty much all I do besides eat, sleep, and work. Still, I'm not going to just follow it off a cliff. I'd like to have at least a few fond memories of it, ya know?

I think I ranted in my own journal a couple weeks ago about people saying we're stupid for not liking the season, and I think the comment that set me off was specifically something about there not being enough cuddle time, which to me said, only slashers hate it because there are girls in it, and the boys aren't having sex on the screen. Read: slashers are all morons who can't see canon for the plot twists. I probably read too much into it, but I don't see why people get so defensive of other people's opinions and start making it personal.

I'm glad someone sees some of the same things I see that turn me off and doesn't think I'm just being stupid. I've really been biting my lip just because I know people roll their eyes and accuse me of not loving the show as much as they do. It just isn't true.

Oh, don`t get me started on "TRUE Fans" and what they do and how they should follow a show and love it!!! even when turns crap. Seriously, you`re supposed to love something that you think is crap? Uh-uh.

Or the reverse "then stop watching". Yes, Sir. By your command, Sir.

And the "they haven`t disappointed us yet" brigade. Um, hello, please exclude me from that us-statement because I`ve had my quibbles before.

Basically it`s all variations of "you have an opinion that is not...mine? The mind boggles." that I can`t understand. I`ve read positive opinions of Season 3 I did not agree with and negatives I did not agree with either. I still don`t think the people holding said opinions are idiots or whatever.
Simple truth of life: people disagree. Obviously fandom is not supposed to be like life in some cases.

Well said, darlin'. I wanna strangle some of the naysayers just as much as some of the "OMG it's SOO AWESOME!!" crowd, because some people take a general feeling of meh and use it as an excuse to pick apart every little thing. That's so not necessary. There are things I like and things I don't, and I give equal credit to both. I don't use things I dislike to overshadow what's good. Beating the writers and producers over the head with negativity isn't going to get anyone their way.
