When vampire shows suck...

That`s it, Vampire Diaries is going on my "I may watch it once the Season is over and I can see where it went" list.

This show used to be legitimately good from mid-Season 1 to all of Season 2, still enjoyable in Season 3 and admittedly I liked parts of Season 4. But this year, I`m sick of the writers aiming for the nadir of the nadir of storytelling - and succeeding every time. I just love annuling development for the lulz because that in no way makes me feel I wasted years watching it in the first place. *sarcasm* And their deluded interviews, obvious incapability to figure out what isn`t working and passive-aggressive asshole tweets. It`s like they think they are the SPN TPTB.

I knew dividing attention between running three shows would be too much but the old warhorse should be something of a self-ran, not an implosion. And The Tomorrow People ain`t good either, at least as long as they refuse to center it around John. That leaves The Originals which is legit good. But a batting average of 1 out of 3? Not that impressive.

Thank God Teen Wolf is currently rocking so hard.

Alarming indeed.

I know, it seems to be contagious or something. Eek.

And then I was interested in seeing the fall-out for Caroline, the latest Katherine plot caught my interest, and I was relieved to see one of the factors that had made me quit TVD in the first place was easing off...

The Katherine plot annoyed me so much. It was so completely predictable. And everything that happened afterwards was also completely by the numbers. I called every little thing before it happened. That didn`t use to be the case with this show.

If Katherine had gone into anyone else, ANYONE but Elena, I could have possibly lived with the redudancy of the 100th ep being a tribute to her journey and then lamely keeping her around. But nope, just as Silas`"great love" had to be an Elena-look-alike, Kat needed to impersonate Elena and do it because she randomely became obsessed with Stefan again. Damon predictably reacted and on it goes. Urgh.

Someone amusingly commented that if Kat wanted a shot with Stefan, she should have body-snatched Damon. Ha, right on. Also, would have been cool and interesting.
Or if it HAD to be a woman, how about Caroline?

I used to ship Delena and figured they wouldn`t really know how the write them together but they have gone and derailed the entire show instead of just one measly ship.

I don't think I'm going to get emotionally invested in the show again; I don't trust the writers at all.

I feel stupid for having done so in the past. :/

Very true - I hadn't seen any of the lead-up whatsoever, and just came in at the "final" bed scene, and even so I knew just what would happen. Fortunately I don't care about any of these characters (except Caroline), so I can view the entire thing with detachment...

And hey, everything is always about Elena. That much became clear in S01E01. ;-)

Caroline got on my nerves in Season 4 but I outright started hating her this year. Which was unfortunate because she was one of my faves after becoming a vampire.

My fave is Damon and I don`t even know what they are doing with him atm.

Ironically Stefan is a good character for me now and I often found him to be a white-washed Sue. Getting him away from Elena has done wonders for him.

I know and it hasn`t even really been my problem. But making her "Amara" as well as now the Kalena "twist" just seems done to keep the stupid, neverending triangle bullshit alive. Because once it`s done, Elena will have reason to hate Damon (but still love him) and will have reeled poor Stefan into it who had almost escaped. And she will have fallen for him again, too. Meaning, same cycle all over again. Hooray.

I stopped watching TVD when Alaric died, and have never been sorry. I think if I'd kept watching, I'd be hating every character by now.

The thing about TVD is: It is a soap opera. Sure, it has vampires and witches and all that, but in the end, it will always be about characters breaking up and getting back together, cheating on each other, and drumming up silly relationship drama from thin air. There will be twins and doppelgangers, believed-dead plotlines, and all manner of other silliness along the way, but all that is just a distraction. In the end, it is about the soapy relationship drama, with Elena, Stefan and Damon at the center of an eternal love triangle.

So yeah. Same cycle all over again. It won't stop as long as this show is on air.

It just used to be so much better written. Even if the triangle was at the center, the larger stories surrounding it were interesting, full of surprising twists, quick-paced and have decent character-development with great scenes between individual characters.

All of that is gone now.
