Hm....

Oh, this might have been the first time an episode of Vampire Diaries has left me a little deflated after watching. Well, since the show started getting good, that is. And it's not even that I found it badly written but I don't like the direction they're going.

I found Stefan so much more interesting and charismatic as Ripper!Stefan. And I enjoyed Damon having to move into the quasi-good-guy position Stefan had vacated.

Also, I thought they'd go Damon/Elena for a while and then probably do the "I choose me" scene in the end (a la True Blood) or her getting back together with Stefan in the end. I realize they are supposed to be the It-couple but I've never really been a shipper.

And I find it a bit saddening that history repeats itself down to a T. Two brothers going for a Petrova doppelganger and her prefering Stefan. The story was fine with Katherin but has it got to be an exact replica with Elean?

I'd be more interested if the original Petrova (and who called that, btw? Everyone? I thought so. It was at least a tie if it was her in the coffin or Mama Original) prefered Elijah or Klaus. And I'm not exactly dying to know if you get my drift.

Now, what will happen? Elena ignoring everything Stefan has done lately, will just jump back into his arms - she looked ready to - whereas Stefan will mope back into another "I'm tortured, ask me how" phase. I liked it better when that happened on Buffy Season 3 and even my patience was tested. Meanwhile Damon will get whiplash from the "you have to care, Damon" "nope, you care too much" which will probably be followed by "you have to care more" and fall off the waggon again. And presto, we're right back at the beginning of the show. Sigh. It's all so... predictable. I expected more than that.

The one couple I'm kinda rooting for now is Klaus/Caroline as they won me over last episode. Granted, Klaus only resembles the character he was first introduced as in name by now but since I found him too one-dimensional back then, I'm okay with him being the emo-est vampire who ever emo-d now. Besides, Caroline has got him pegged. He just wants to be loved for himself - and ironically, whenever he already has it, he manages to destroy it through his own lies and manipulations to keep it. Rebekah and Elijah genuinely cared for him and he alone turned them against him. Ripper!Stefan even seemed to feel a kinship back in the flashback days and Klaus compelled it out of him.

So Caroline might have gotten through enough to him that for once he'd try to go about getting what he wants in a normal way - and then get to keep it as a reward. We'll see.
