Okay, after watching the latest White Collar episode, I have to ask. Does Neal desperately want to get caught or what?
I mean, this is a professional conman who eluded the FBI/interpol and probably a dozen insurance investigators like Sara for at least a few years. Yet in the last two episodes, he not only let Sara find the passport with the top-secret-one-in-a-million-untraceable-identity out of pure sloppiness, he also pretty much gave her a written invitation to finding the treasure cam. And I won't even discuss the stupidity of having a treasure cam on your laptop like this in the first place.
If the character truly were THAT sloppy, he'd never have outlasted the FBI a single day.
It's either that or my dearly hated "characters turns dumber than a bunch of rocks for plot requirements". And on most shows there is a margin for error there but not actually on this one. No matter which side he is on or where his loyalties truly lie but if Neal is not at least competent IMO the whole show falls apart.
Therefore I have to go with the assumption that he subconsciously sabotages himself. In a big way. I mean not even Joe Schmoe from the streets would have such outlandish slip-ups.
