was "Highlander" with all the yummy (and phallic :) swordfights.
Hee! I've never seen that either, but I've hard just a little about it. *g*
When I was a child, I'd read anything at all and even as an adult, I'd often read sci-fi/fantasy stuff (more sci-fi than fantasy, though), depending on the author or if someone gave me the books or something. *g* If I liked an author, I'd try to read all his/her books, regardless of genre. Sometimes I liked them all, and sometimes not.
Sci-fi just wasn't something I sought out all that much. I love history, so I'd read non-fiction history stuff before reading a sci-fi novel, and I loved historical novels. Mostly, though, I preferred novels set in the here and now or at least set in reality or the reality of the author, whatever that was.
Movies and TV shows are different, but my idea of sci-fi was always that it was lame and cheesy--probably because of the really lame things that were on TV when I was a kid.
I loved the original (and only, as far as I'm concerned) Battlestar Galactica, but not because it was a cheesy sci-fi show. I loved the characters first, and the premise second--not necessarily the fact that it was set in place, but the fact that it related to Earth history (like Stargate did at first as well) and what it was trying to say about human nature.
I liked the first Star Wars movie, but I did think all the space battles, and especially the creatures, were really lame. I never liked Chewbacca or the robots. *g* I never liked Star Trek either--not the original (although I've probably seen every episode by now *g*) or any of the spin-offs.
I never sat around thinking, "Gee, I hate sci-fi" or anything like that, but it just didn't appeal to me, so unless there was some other reason to start watching a show, I probably wouldn't. I also have an aversion to puppets and fake creatures. I'm not sure if I can get over that enough to want to watch Farscape, but I'm recording it and saving it anyway. hehe
OTOH, I've always been a big fan of buddy shows on TV (or brother shows), so that would be a reason to start watching. *g*
The whole vampire thing--and werewolves, too--reminds me too much of the cheesy soap that I watched as a child: Dark Shadows. I loved that show! *g* It kind of ruined all of that sort of thing for me later, though. hehe I may yet end up changing my mind about it someday, though. hehe I'm not dead set against it, but it's just the idea of vampires is not ever going to be a reason to watch a show. *g* There'd have to be a cute guy or preferably some sort of slash involved. hehe
