Miniature meta

Totally random observation about the latest episode which seques into a mini-meta about Dean and his women.

You know I thought so back in Season 1 but intensive rewatching of a certain scene in "What should and what should never be" confirmed it for me.

The scene where Mary opens the door, she looks a lot like Julie Benz - I`m thinking the Angel-parts where Darla was human, a bit frail and not wearing the typical Darla-seduction make-up. Back in Faith I believe Dean really connected with Layla spiritually but damn, she is probably the woman coming closest to physical likeness with Mary he ever has - and ever will - met.
It`s probably just a weird coincidence with casting but I was really baffled by it. And somehow it`s freaky too.

Especially since I believe and WSAWSNB seems to confirm this, Dean prefers brunettes. Not that he`d say not to a hot blonde but he genuinely has the most chemistry with dark-haired girls on the show: Hailey, Andrea, Tessa, the Crossraods Demon, Tara, now Carmen. Cassie - okay type fits, chemistry not so much. Sarah and Madison would probably have been right up his alley too but Pimp-the-Sam wins out. :)

With the blondes though it never really works out: Jess was taken, no flirting with Bloody Mary!Charly or Asylum!Kat (too young?) or the stewardess or Home!Jenny (too much emotional turmoil?), Meg was adversary, Rebecca got the Shapeshifter, Jo was filed away as kid-sister

So okay, Layla was dying and all but when Dean was too he still got his flirt on with her. :) We see from Carmen he prefers Mary`s personality in a woman but maybe the physcial likeness not so much? Because they`ll never reach the perfection of his Madonna Mary anyway? Unless it`s a really, really resemblance? God Layla even prayed and probably died on him. Maybe that would have been too weird ultimately. Hello Oedipus.
On the other hand, Jess not only bore a resemblance to Mary (and Dean) on the outside but seemingly to fun-loving Dean on the inside too. While dark-haired, career-driven, more analytical Cassie goes more in the Sam-end of things. No matter half of fandom believes they`re doing each other. This whole family would be Sigmund Freud`s wet dream. :-p

Oh, and speaking as one: where the hell are REDHEADS? *grumble* Small, chubby redheads. Can`t go wrong with that boys, trust me. ;-)
