Everything is heightened - only not...

Couple thoughts on the lastest eps as well as this Season in general of Vampire Diaries
I can`t believe that Jeremy seems to be getting the best plotline this year. I never disliked the character but they had a hard time finding a real purpose for him. Guess it`s to be Buffy. :)
And sorry to say but Elena Gilbert is the worst vampire in the history of vampirism. And that includes rat-eating Angel moping around in alleys. The character was so good in Seasons 1 and 2, then annoyed me something fiercely during the last third of Season 3. I was glad she was turned at the end of Season 3 because I figured she might get an upgrade in awesomeness as Caroline did when she became a vampire. But nope. So much nope.
If I never hear the words "compassion" and "heightened/magnified" ever again, it will still be TOO SOON. I felt more sympathy in that moment for Klaus when he could number to the day the time he spent being tormented by five! killed hunters than I felt for Elena all episode. All the other characters killed someone and were expected to pretty much suck it up by the next episode. Not to mention, after what Connor pulled with April at the funeral, I can hardly bring myself to light a candle for him. He was just as bad and a killer as he perceives vampires to be. There was no moral distinction there.
At least Stelena broke up again. Thank God for small blessings because those two characters? You know what they do? They magnify, ha, the worst in each other. Their fucking mopiness and denial.
I have no doubt they`ll get together again and be the "epic" endgame couple but so ill-advised.
Not that I don`t think Damon should tell her to take a hike if she propositions him romantically. I think they have chemistry and I have rooted for the pairing but right now, right this? I`m hoping against hope that he has a shred of self-respect left and doesn`t put himself through another "hey, last resort" debacle. Their friendship is fine and I enjoy scenes between the characters but at the moment she basically considers herself dirt for even wanting him and what does that really say about her feelings?
Of course, that all feeds into this good brother/bad brother bullshit. Thing is, Stefan made a better first impression on the Fellowship of the Falls. Whereas relatives of his Ripper-victims from oh, last summer, would probably not consider him a good anything. And his actions with Chris in the last episode? He can`t claim any moral highground over Damon. If you go by how ethical they are, they are both killers and both equally capable of total moral shittiness. Damon just manages to be a self-actualized, sarcastic badass about it which is why I prefer him.
Am iffy on Bonnie`s storyline this year with the shady professor. Is he Silas himself or just some flunkie of a Silas-cult?
I`m still rooting for Klaroline somewhat. If you get down to it, they make no sense and he is pretty much a remorseless killer. But I like his pony-drawing, ten-year-old-girl self and Caroline actually brings that out. Aww.
This Season is a bit weird. I`m still engaged in watching but something is missing.
