Tag, I'm it...

Well, that sucks. I was "lucky" enough to catch this stupid CVU trojan and it crushed my computer so bad, so far nothing I tried works. I can work it fine unless I try connect with the net, then the screen freezes with the false "ransom note", you know "you violated copyright law and will go to jail for 6000 years unless you pay us 100 Euros in the next two days, bla bla". Thankfully, the external harddrive - that was plugged in at the time it happened - doesn't seem affected. There are no suspicious data, especially one with .exe on it at least. And I can use my trusty netbook for internet access in the meantime.

The ironic thing is, I already bought a new laptop because my old one has been acting up more and more lately. I had planned to do all the installations and preparations and shit on the weekend. Of course, I also had planned to copy some stuff from my old comp. Now I'm uncertain, I don't want to simply piggy-back the trojan of course. But if I just choose specific files and transfered them each at a time, could malware still be transfered that way? I mean, it has to be an .exe file if nothing else, does it?

When it comes to computers, I'm, shall we say, semi-knowledgeable so I'd be glad for any helpful tipps and tricks.

You might have to run your antivirus program in safe mode. Before the system starts up you keep pressing F8 and go into safe mode with internet connection and then run your antivirus program.

That is how I had to go about getting rid of something that was playing commericals on my computer with nothing on. Hope this helps.

If you use another program just remember you have to uninstall the current antivirus program you have.

Or someway make it not work (you can't have two on your system as the same time working they will not like each other).

Meep! My brother had one of these a while ago and it was very difficult to get rid off. A malware program did the trick in the end, but I can't remember the program right now. :/

Oh, that sucks :/ Did you try CureIt! from dr.Web? This utility is free and can cure some malware.
