I can't even ... how could they cut this scene? Seriously. This is such an important scene, even for the Arthur/Merlin friendship. And they cut it? I mean... seriously.
Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I saw it. At first, I thought "aww, cute bonding moment before battle" but since we have had a couple of those between Arthur and Merlin during the show, I could deal.
But giving Merlin Igraine's seal? This is probably the biggest "official" acknowledgment of Merlin's place in Arthur's life there ever was. Because, to be realistic, the only other people who would have been contenders for a gift like that were Uther, Gwen or maybe Aggravaine as Igraine's brother. Mostly Gwen possibly as a "love gift" since it's the typical scene between love interests.
Of course, we couldn't let go of all those disembodied voices or flying CGI skulls, could we? Or the knights randomely riding through the countryside? Or scared villagers/people of Camelot running around?
Fuck you, editor.
I don't even want to know how many scenes they cut or never ended up shooting that are important in character development. I assume it must be a lot anyways.
Maybe Season 2 and 3 were chock full of Arthur/Merlin bonding moments that we never got to see because they had to be cut to make room for Arthur-throws-silverware-at-Merlin-moments. Arrgggh!!!!
