Feb. 19th, 2010 04:18 pmMy Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 1 and 2 combo DVD arrived today and oh man, that ending still pisses me off. Or rather, the fact that the show was cancelled after that ending pisses me off.
I'm not sure I have ever seen a show where I was pretty blasé about it ending till 5 minutes into the very last episode and then those five minutes completely and utterly changed my mind. Seriously, I thought the 2nd Season dragged on more and more, leaving me rather uninvolved with the idea of it being cancelled.
But.that.last.sequence. THAT was like a whole pilot for a freaking show I'd LOVE to see.
And as Thomas Dekker says in the audio commentary it IS both the most hopeful and hopeless ending they could have done because John gets a lot of what he wants: his father, Derek, Cameron and being freed from the burden of being TEH John Connor and absolutely nothing of it in any way that he wanted it. It's like one of those genie-wishes gone horribly wrong.
So, of course they cancelled it and renewed the more in-house Dollhouse which they have cancelled now, too. I understand it' a business and shows have to earn their keep with ratings (and they gave TSCC a couple of chances, no denying that) but in the last few years it has become ridiculous with Fox. The cancellation of Dark Angel begat Firefly whose early cancellation begat True Calling whose early cancellation and so on and so forth. *headdesk*
If they had at least done a TV movie for closure, I'd even take a continuation in book form or anything really. Sigh.
I was never in the fandom - don't even know if there was a fandom to speak of - but is there fic that deals with young-John-is-a-nobody-in-the-apocalyptic-future-with-his-loved-ones-who-don't-even-know-him?
