I think it was a good choice to withhold information from your readers. It makes for a more dynamic story when we don't get all the info. And yes Jaret is a little clueless. He just doesn't understand why Jen WOULDN'T automatically obey him. Doesn't Jen realize Jaret is the leader? I mean sure Jaret forced Jen to be his slave, but he won't hold a grudge about a little thing like that... right? (Ha!)

And I definitely approve of comedy in dramatic situations. It gives stories more layers. Plus sometimes you just have to find a way to release some of the tension.
