Heh. I figure it would depend on the circumstances of both. Being a child slave like Jaret has been, he probably by far would have prefered out on the streets.
Both are unpleasant options, but of course Jaret decides not to share important info with Jen (and the readers), so of course we all pick the lesser of two evils... and are wrong. Dammit Jaret! Why do you have me thinking slavery is better then theivery?
I wanted him to have a little bit of fun with it. :)
Well it seems like a pretty effective way for Jaret to show his alpha male tendencies without actually beating the crap out of Jen. And poor Jen was just so humiliated. Of course he figured out a little bit too late that it would probably be better to just shut up and take it, as opposed to struggling. I have to admit I appreciated the humor of Jaret teasing him afterwards. I needed a bit of levity after all the slavery tension.
