Writing this period would definitely be difficult, as there really is no basis of "well, everybody in the area did this one thing the same way" as depending where you are and who's in charge of it, cultural things change...often. So by keeping it vague, I like that it stops people from going "But wait, that's from such and such period, so it's wrong!" drawing people away from an interesting story. So total props for donig this story in a really crazy period and place.
