Hey, sorry for horning in. I think I was reading someone else's f-list, even after I vowed not to read episode discussion, and ended up here because of your comment about condescension. And Amen to that.
I hate the myth-arc at this point, too. I'm giving 'em til Christmas to wow me, but if it doesn't happen, I kinda like CSI, too, ya know? I can wait for the DVDs if it's gonna be superspeshul Sam all season. Still, like I said, giving it 'til Christmas.
As far as the theology, I think it was necessary to a degree to say hey, Man...demon...both created by same God, so ya know what, they ain't the only ones pulling strings here, and if they don't play nice, well, Daddy may just have to put his foot down. Do I want to see that happen? No. The idea of God and Lucifer plotting against each other on a weekly television show is just too much. You put that much emphasis on the big picture, and lose the personality of the show. It's already pretty much done that. Not that there hasn't been justification of the changes in characters, just that it doesn't necessarily make better television.
I'm pretty Meh, about the season. So far, the only epi I've liked was Black Rock. One more episode of Ruby pulling strings and getting things done, leading Sam along while Dean just kinda falls to the wayside, and I'm about done. And I'm sure someone's gonna read this comment and come in here and tell list all the stuff that Dean's done this season that makes him essential to the plot, but it's all seemed contrived to me, just something to give the other guy to do while the special does the important stuff. I started watching for Dean. I still watch for Dean, and right now, I get a better fix from my DVDs. It sounds pissy, but it's true. It's possible to have intensity and entertainment and mytharc without this over the top, over-ambitious, been done a hundred thousand times already, B.S.
And lets just say, that episode ws sooo boring, I almost fell asleep. Exposition is okay, a scene or two per epi, not the entire episode with one snapped neck and a show of demonic force to make it seem like more happens.
Oh dear, I beleive I have ranted in your private space. Please do be deleting if I offend in any way.
